Bible says that the age of our Earth could be more than 6000 years old

I just don’t understand why so many people are saying that our Earth is about 6000 years old? If you read Genesis 1:1-2 word by word, it is clearly written as follows: 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. It can be concluded that at first, the earth was formless and void. Then, God began creating the Earth into a circle. So, how can people conclude that our Earth is only about 6000 years old? When the Earth was formless, it could have been more than 6000 years old. Don’t you think so? Also, Dinosaurs are also consistent with the Bible. Genesis 1:21: God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. It tells us that God created the great sea monsters. Genesis 1:25: God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. Have you also read the word of the beasts of the earth? So, it could be Dinosaurs.

sconibear, You are better reading thoroughly before you answer questions! I said that "the age of our Earth could be more than 6000 years old". In addition to that, you have no right to tell me what books I should read.

what do you mean an atheist of some kind???? how many different kinds are there??? I might want to join a new chapter, and if you think the Earth is only 40,000 years old, don't ever become a science teacher.

Well when you say its "more than 6000 yrs old" it also does not translate to millions of years. According to science and scientific processes the earth is millions of years old and i think it is more accurate than simply saying "more than 6000 years old". Besides when you say "more than 6000 years old" it means that the age of the earth is more or less close to 6000 years old not millions of years as claimed by science. So it is still an issue of you believing earth as a few thousand years old or millions of years old. Well you say that dinosaurs can be part of the "beasts created by god" , but remember that according to the bible, God only created earth and everything in it within 7 days, then why does adam and eve nor other early people never mentioned dinasaurs r big ugly, veracious creatures n literature nor in paintings. The fact here is that dinasaurs have been extinct long before man. So did the dinasaurs got extinct on the 6th day? I dont think so. Unless of course you also believe that 1 day is not really not 1 day but translates to millions of years, and that my friend is another discussion

Kingpong, When I said “more than 6000 years ago”, it could be greater number than 6000. So, it sounds that you knew my thinking better than me? Of course, I won’t say one million years ago because first, I am not an Anthropologist. Second, I did not live in that time. Third, as a Scientist, we have to write exactly what we are talking about. Since I didn’t do those discoveries, I won’t say exactly in Math. Fourth, in my opinion, the theory of evolution has a problem. It is not like Mathematics. Adam and Eve did not mention about Dinosaurs but it doesn’t mean that they don’t live at the same time with Dinosaurs. Adam and Eve did not also mention about Rhinoceros. Does it mean that Rhinoceros didn’t exist during that time? However, Job 40:15-24 mentions about Behemoth, which had physical traits like Dinosaurs. In other words, Behemoth is not a normal animal. It is mentioned “He is the first of ways of God” (it means that God created this huge animals first). Job 40:15-24: 15"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox. 16"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly. 17"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together. 18"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron. 19"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword. 20"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there. 21"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh. 22"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him. 23"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth. 24"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose? Isaiah 27:1 In that day the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, With His fierce and great and mighty sword, Even Leviathan the twisted serpent; And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

Bible is full of crap, you can interpret it however you want, but scientific evidence can be interpreted only one way: Earth is ~4.5 billion years old. Evolution happened and we are the results of it. Those young earth creationists are simply stupid, by dismissing all the evidence we collected.

Every one has different opinions, perspective and views of the bible and personally i do not like to take the things written in the bible literally.

I did read in the Bible, that God created the Earth to appear older then it was. HE created Adam and Eve as adults, and the animals, birds, plants, veggies, etc. HE made as adults, not as babies and gave each the intelligence of mature beings. So Earth could be 6000 years on the nose, but it looks older. I do believe that there were dinosaurs or dragons. When people say that the Earth is a million years old, and not around 6000 years (give or take 100 years either way) they doubt the power of God. Beside if it was really old, like 40,000 or a million would we not be on other planets by now? After all, there were advances even in periods like the Dark Ages.

Actually the earth is 4.6 billion years old but the human species is a relitive short timer. Anatomicaly modern humans have only been around for about one hundred thousand years.

Very good, lol When I was a young christian, I would have jumped up and down swearing that the earth was only 6000-year-old, talk about ignorance going to seed. I was like a mocking bird mimicking what I heard; much to my mortification now. The years have gone by and little by little I've been graced with little glimpses understanding. Making a long story short, 1. 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. What is this telling me? It's telling me that my timetable is not necessarily Gods timetable. If I were to take a thousand years, break down each year, then each day in that thousand years and apply another thousand year to each day, good gracious that's along time. Time enough for all kinds of cool things to evolve then die off leaving only fossils for us wise and all all-knowing humans to find. Science proves it. Then there is this; Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. This tells me to stop trying to understand things that have no relevance to my redemption, salvation. There are 1189 chapters in the bible, it took only three of those chapters for man to fall flat on his face and the other 1186 to find his way back to God. Yeah, some of us did find our way back.
