Is a COLLEGE DEGREE always the KEY to SUCCESS?

I am just wondering if a person should really have a college degree in order to become successful in life. I was recently offered a scholarship to study Chinese for two years then I will receive a certificate but rest assured that I will have a job which is a Chinese teacher for three years. After teaching Chinese for three years, I am already free to apply for another job or continue my studies. I am now an incoming third year college student in a university. I am really interested with the opportunity but my parents want me to finish my course first before I grab the offer. Do we really need a college degree to become successful?

college is not very important.but sometimes is necessary. maybe there is good chance for you,but the first requirement is that you are a college. actually when you work,yo will find it's ok even you don't graducte in college.

Its not necessary to have a college degree if you are in a small business or so but if you are planning a job, where you need to be well qualified then there is a need of degree but not necessary. All successful men/women are not having degrees but some of them might be having good degrees. But as far as your offer concerns, i think you should grab this as opportunity knocks the door once...

Honestly I'm still in confusion right now. I just hope that I could come up with the right decision.

Success from hard work. Learning in school is one of the effort, but not a guarantee of success.

I think you just finished your study first. You'll be grateful later to know how you felt when you graduating. Plus your parent would have been proud of you if you do. Most parent wants to see their children graduate. It's like a pride to them, so as a children it is our responsibilities to make them proud. You can advance your career after finishing study. I'm sure you'll find a better offer. Good Luck.

I have to admit that I have a 2 year degree as a Radiologic Technologist but did not find it fulfilling. Believe it or not I have been quite successful in Sales. It seems to be in my blood. I believe a degree can sometimes get you in the door but it does not guarantee anything right now as we have seen in our Economy. You see everyday how many actors, athletes and such do not sometimes, even have a High School diploma. I just believe in hard work and exposing yourself to many walks of life in order to know what is available to you. Be in tune with your surroundings and you will be amazed at how much you can learn. Sometimes just a conversation with someone will spark an idea inside of yourself and maybe that will be the next million dollar deal! Who knows. Good luck to you in whatever you choose but always remember it is your life and you are the one who will have to live it, no one else.

I think the key to success is not depended on college degree nor other education level. The most important thing is that you know your potential & have a willingness to develop it. If you have a special skill that is rarely had by other people, it also can become your key to be succeeded.

In my opinion, completing your course will bring you to many opportunities in the future. There is nothing wrong to grab the opportunities you have right now if you really need to earn at your age. But if you are looking for a better future, I would finish my studies first I have completed my five years course and I was not contented with my degree since I am seeing other jobs opportunities in different fields. It is good to have a better foundation even though you are going to work in a small company in the future. Good luck to your decision and hope for your success.

Hello tracydee!!! Well if we are going to work in certain places, the major thing every company ask is for the degree we have achieved. Each and every company seeks that thing, else they don't believe us, no matter how skillful we are, they don't test us and straightly neglect us. So degree is like the ticket, if we want to work in the companies. It would have been other thing if the business is being handled by some people with close acquaintance. But if we have own way, if we don't want to work at such companies then the degree may effect lesser. I think your mother is also right. Why should you leave your university at the middle. That means wasting your two years of time, isn't it? If we are good at degree, then opportunity comes up again and again. Don't worry.... I hope whatever you choose, you will choose the best and won't regret in at any cost. Happy mylotting...And good luck...

Absolutely not! There are many things you can do without ever having a college degree! I would absolutely take the offer to study Chinese and teach for 3 years. If after that time you want to finish college, you can. There is no age limit on college. It isnt like you cant finish college later. But this offer may not still be available to you if you wait until after college. Im sure your parents want what is best for you. Times are not the same as when your parents were your age. You really have to decide what is best for you and go for it! There is no guarantee for success these days. A college degree definitely isnt it. Look at how many people have college degrees but no job or they cant pay their bills! Both of my brother-in-laws never went to college. They are both quite successful. It is dependant on the person not the degree!

What kind of success are you implying? There are many people who become successful in life because they have lived their life the way they want it to be. That doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be rich. Some people lived in luxury but they were never happy. I can't say for sure that this setting is a success. But by earning a College Degree could be helpful, most of the time, since big companies are looking for people who are educated and most suitable for the jobs that they offer. College is the training ground of the actual battle, so to speak. For example, a computer company needs computer literate graduates to be able to assist people in their computer problems, improve the company's products, understand machine languages and etc. in the near future without having the burden to train them on how to do this and that for many years. While on the other hand, there are the rare others who became successful without having going to school at all because they can't afford to attend one. How do they do that? One of the reason is that they know how to handle their resources. Two, because they have the guts to face failures and the brains to do the right things at the right time. But if I were you, I would take the College Degree course just in case I am not one of the rare people who have the strong luck on their side.
