Do you give names to your gadgets?

Hehe this may sound crazy, but I name my gadgets to create a personal touch ;) I have an mp4 player and I named it Aurora because my nephew also has a teddy bear named Aurora and I can't think of other names to christen it when I first bought it so I named her the same name. On the other hand, I have two phones and their name is Macbeth and Cymbeline, named after the works of a great playwright Shakespeare. How about you, do you also give names to your gadgets??

It's funny that you should bring this up now. I just realized a couple of days ago that I haven't named this computer yet and I've had it for almost a year!!! The one I had before this one was Sophia because I liked it and I like the name Sophia...not a spectacular story but there it is. Before that I had a desktop PC that was a little possessed so I named it Reagan after the girl in the Exorcist!

hi there, wow thats like the first time i am hearing something like that. Thats sounds really interesting. well I guess it gives a personal sense of belonging to your stuffs and when you feel a personal attachment to your stuffs i am sure one will also take really good care of it. Maybe i should start naming the things around me cause i keep spoiling things really fast. Maybe if i have a personal attachement towards them, i can would feel the need to take care of them more and thus it would not be get spoilt too fast.. But thanks for that, i am so going to try this. Have a great day ahead. best regards. alvingb

Yeah, actually I don't, but my friend does. She named almost all gadgets that she has. She named her laptop Coqu (Compaq ku), it is Indonesian language means "her Compaq" since her laptop brand is Compaq. She also named her flash disk Teman Coqu (Coqu's friend). Someday, she asked me what my laptop name is. Then, I answered that I named my laptop Ario (Acer Ohio) since I bought it in Columbus, Ohio, US. :D

Honestly I do not my gadgets. That seems a little odd to me but hey whatever floats your boat. HAHA I had an ex who would name his cars and I guess it isn't too bad and along the same lines. I just couldn't imagine naming anything that isn't alive and whatnot.

That sound crazy fun for me.. I don't name any of my gadgets but I do have a name for my bike and it's my Night Rider, ha! I know it sounds childish but just like gadgets naming, I feel that it's a very awesome name to be giving my bike. I know that I can always rely on it for anything and it's like my 2nd best friend, besides normal human being. For the record, Aurora is a gorgeous name.

I also tend to name my gadgets. I have a kiasera mobile phone I call Sera (not very original, but I thought it was funny. I once had a desktop computer I called Warren. I call my notebook computer Poindexter. I also name my automobiles. I have a classic Chevy I call Kortni and used to have a stationwagon I named Tanya. I know lots of people with that particular quirk. My dad has a computer named Booger and a motorcycle he calls Wednesday.

Wow you give unique names to your gadgets. My favorite is "Poindexter", the name sounds intelligent and it resembles the features of a notebook computer ;) Never thought others give names to theirs too.. ;) thanks!

Thanks. I do like to name my computers after smart people from movies or according to their "personalities". Poindexter was named after Timothy Busfield's character in Revenge of the Nerds. I've always loved that movie. This is a really fun discussion. Thank you for posting it.

I name a lot of my things. Mostly biblical names. I named my house Joseph because it means increase. I named my first car "Miracle" because it was old but it was a miracle that I had it and it was paid for. When I got my new car recently, I named it "Abundance" because our Pastor was preaching about Abundance on Sunday and Monday Morning I had a new car, paid for, no notes. I also name my business equipment like my printers and my computers. It's fun to do.

There was a computer lab in the college I attended where the administrators named all the computers and printers to make them easier to identify when they needed repair or upgrade. They seemed to have fun with it by naming them after characters from Star Wars and other science-fiction classics. The server was called Yoda, I think.

The only other thing I've named other than my car is my iPod. I named it Booger because it's green. I couldn't think of a better name for it. LOL...but everyone knows what I'm talking about if I say something like I've got to charge Booger up. My parents gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago and even my mom will ask me now and then how Booger is doing.

if you're crazy, cecile, then i'm your friend ;) why, i named my gadgets too!!!! i named my first cellphone kayley, after the heroine in 'the sword in the stone'. I love the movie and i thought 'kayley' is an unusual name, so when i get my cellphone, i immediately christened her 'kayley' :) one of my friends also named her cellphone; sebastian. Then sebastian thought of flying from the 8th floor and crashed himself. Due to heartbreak, she never named her cellphone after that. i named my ipod haillie. From eminem's little girl, but i put extra 'l' there. When i have to sell her (cause i rarely use her in the end) i wrote an entire blog post to commemorate her and the thing we've gone through. I love the name so much that when i bought a notebook (sometime after selling the ipod) i give it the same name. I named my second cellphone 'chica'. There's nothing with the name. I just went blank when i first have her. And calling/referring to her as 'my cellphone'/'the cellphone'/it sounds very rude. So there goes 'chica' Okay, i just reread what i've wrote and i sound damn weird!! lol. but i think by giving name to our gadgets, not only add a personal touch, but also make us more attached to it. So we can care about it more than if it's just a thing. If you know what i mean. And of course, when they start giving us trouble, we can get angry with them without making the other gadgets a fright because we're using the names. Thus, they know which gadgets being naughty, right? ;) okay, that's it. I really sounds weird! lolol

Nah, but secretly yes. lol! My phone is an old Nokia 6680. Officially, it is codenamed "Milla" by Nokia. If you'll Wiki your Nokia phone, chances are, it has a female codename. Milla is quite a weird name and it's the name of the storeowner in the neighborhood so i'd rather not use it to avoid speculations. lol! But i do give names to my pillows when i was still a kid. lol! They're my babies. lol! I'll quote the wiki of 6680: "The phone operates on GSM 900/1800/1900, and UMTS 2100 on 3G networks. During its development, the 6680 was nicknamed Milla." Well it seems like Nokia 6630 has a better name, Charlie.

I usually don't do that but I did give a name to my computer when I first bought it. I call him Rei-chan =D Rei is shortcut to Reiatsu =P I gave him his name when I had just recently started watching Bleach and I was kinda mesmorized by the word xD Reiatsu = Spiritual Energy, or something like that And yes, I do refer to him as a he -w- he's my baby boy! ;D

I don't, but I have friends who will name their cars & do stuff like that. More specifically, my ex boyfriend used to call his Mustang "baby", just because he loved it SO much. It was kind of annoying. But to each's own.

Yes, I used to call my old motorcycle Dino. It's full name is Dinosaur...lol...I named it like that because it was an old motorcycle :) I love it dearly, until I finally had to give up taking care of it because the spare parts are rare and very expensive.

Wow, that is really cute of you. You really connect with your gadgets through naming them. At least you do some personal touch by doing that. I haven't do that to my gadgets. But I did name some of my daughter's soft toys. One of these days, I'll try to do it. It sounds like fun!

No, I don't give names to my gadgets. I just call or brand them what they are. It's funny that you call your gadgets with names. It reminds me when me and my sister when we were still a child. We give our things some names.lol

I name my cars, but I don't think I've ever named any of my gadgets. It's a cute idea though! I agree about the personal touch - I felt that way about my cars!

I don't often give names to my gadgets, only to my pets at home. Sounds interesting naming them where that is my weakness memorizing names. I'd try to give names to my gadgets later..

I have never thought about naming my gadgets. I haven't even named my car...which seems to be common where I am from. I guess it makes you appreciate your belongings more.
