almost a year ago, on june 1, 2008, our government banned supermarkets, shops and open markets from supplying free plastic bags to customers, in a drive to protect environment and cut waste. according to a recent survey, 106 outlets of Wal-mart China had reduced plastic bag usage by 80 percent in the past year, and the number of plastic bags used in supermarkets was lowered by 40 billion, or 66 percent, and all the plastic bags saved in one year equal 1.6 million tons of petroleum. now, i am used to keep at least 1 bag in my car avoid any inconvenient, i think it's a good habit. how about your city, still supply free charge plastic bag? and do you make a habit of using own bag instead of that plastic bags.

So far, my country still provide free of charge plastic bags. But, some of our supermarket started to promote the cloth bags which we need to buy from them. When we bring those bags to supermarket, to put our shopping goods, we will be rewarded coupon in return. Those coupons can be redeemed for gift. When i can remmeber, i will bring those bags to supermarket. But, when i in hurry, i will still use to accept those free plastic bags from supermarket. Usually, i will use those plastic bags as gabbage bags in my home..I make sure that i don't waste my plastic bags..

Our stores are trying to get our customers used to using reusable cloth bags, but it is slow going. Americans are very selfish and want everything easy. They do not even want to carry their own bags back and forth to the store. Plus the cloth bags that the stores sell are garbage and tear very quickly. Shaom~Adoniah

Well, in our country, the supermarkets are still supplying free plastic bags for now. Our government had a campaign on using cloth bags since last year, but I do still see a lot of people using the plastic bags from the supermarkets and shops. There are people who did use the cloth bags when shopping. There's a supermarket chain which offers a 10 cents discount if we bring our own bag, but it seems that not a lot take advantage of this... For me, we do bring out cloth bag if we anticipate that we will be buying lots of things from the supermarket. However, I do have to admit that sometimes I do forget as well...
