I love to read, but typically read modern fiction. I have read older stories for school and a couple in my own time and I'd like to read more and would like to know what some of your favorites are. I enjoyed The Picture of Dorian Gray.

They are all great books. I read Treasure islan loads of times in high school. Horatio Hornblower I got into after seeing Ioan Gruffud acting on the A&E television mini series based on the Forester books. And Johnny Depp stared in the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" *lol* It's hilarious!

I typically like the female classic writers so my favorites include Jane Austen and Edith Wharton. I am also trying to brush on my classics, then I will finally get around to reading some Dickens.

Some are better than others. I like Emma, Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility better than her others.

I have never read any of Jane Austen's work. I hear a lot about her stuff, but have never actually read any of it.

Dorian Gray is a good book. I enjoyed Dubliners by James Joyce, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. RIght now I started to read Crime and Punishment and i havent gotten far enough to decide whether or not I like it. Oh oh definitely read Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt is is an amazing book.

i read a classic years ago by John Hersey called "White Lotus" i loved it. i recently ran across it again at a yard sale and plan on reading it again soon. right now though my youngest son passed me some books i've heard about but never thought id want to read. they are books i heard had strange ideas about church, science, etc. but he said id like them so i gave them a try. i dont agree with everything in them but i couldnt put them down once started. they are the Dan Brown books of like the Davinci code and Demons and angels. surprisingly interesting if you like history things. i also loved Wethuring hieghts by one of the Bronte sisters cant remember which.

I loved reading the Scarlet Letter, it is beautifully written. There is also a book called Ruth that was written in the Victorian era that is about a woman that gets pregnant out of marriage but has a different message but is just as good. Have a great day.

I read it for a college English class but it was actually very good. I forget who wrote it and seem to have lost my copy but remember that the copy I had showed a woman on the cover sewing.

Kel, I can really recommend reading some of the Classics, there are some really wonderful books and authors whom generations of readers have enjoyed. The Bronte sisters gave us Jane Eyre and Wuthering Height, 2 great classics, Jane Austen's best was Pride and Prejudice, Thomas Hardy wrote many classic novels the best of which are Jude the Obscure and The Return of the Native, D.H. Lawrence gave us the Northern working class books such as Sons and Lovers, Evelyn Waugh wrote great comedic novels of the early 20th century. Try each of these authors and see which ones you enjoy the most or which period of literature you empathise with best - happy classic reading.

I love reading novels of Danielle Steel and Sidney Sheldon. They are raly page turner. The first Danielle Steel novel that I have read was Star. It was a story about a very beautiful young country girl named Crystal who loves to sing, and she falls for an army man named Spencer, who is a lot older than she is. They have their own ups and downs, some twists in life, and the same with some other love stories, their story ends with the two of them getting back together and they lived happily ever after. haha! I have also read Danielle Steel's WIngs, Daddy, No Greater Love, Jewels, Mirror Image, Vanished, Accident, and my favorite of all, "Message from Nam".

I enjoy classic writers very much and among them my all time favorite is Jules Verne. His novels are writen in the old fashion but with themes and tend towards modern which is very appealing for those who like science fiction. From his various titles I can recomend: A Journey to the Center of the Earth Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea The Mysterious Island Tribulations of a Chinaman in China Eight Hundred Leagues on the Amazon The Vanished Diamond Two Years' Vacation The Will of an Eccentric The Mighty Orinoco Doctor Ox
