The conflict is classical. Those who have read "Fountainhead" wud be very much aware of the topic. The discussion is about the rights of an individual in societies which are democratic and thus are controlled by society. Is the society allowed to oppress an individual for the larger benefit of society when society has been so much benefited by the innovations of individuals. The purview of discussion contains varied events like a) Hiroshima- Nagasaki explosions b) Narmada Bachao c) Capital punishments d) invasion of Afghanistan for obliteration of Taliban I know they sounds disparate but motif is same, sacrifice of less for benefits of more. This is also worth considering tht whether these sacrifices indeed do any good to society as it is believed tht oppression only enhances oppression and so does hatred etc. Further the fundamental purpose of society is to serve individuals which it seems it fails to do on such occasions. The moot question is tht how to decide the extant of freedom enjoyed by individual/community/nation. How to maintain the fine balance of freedom and accountability. And which side does ur instinct/logic/wisdom tells u to take
