oh....that sucks. I saw on the news this morning that she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but I forgot all about it until now. I think they said that Tyson was out of town and had to rush home and the mother wasn't there either.....so looks like it's going to fall on the shoulders of a nanny or caretaker. and yeah, what was a 4 year old doing playing with a treadmill without supervision??? definitely preventable.

yeah he was away but i didnt know if he was still with their mom or what.. at least he rushed home.. some celebs may not care enough to have done that

It was a freak accident, I'm sure of that, but I'm also sure that it could of been prevented. There are so many cases of small kids dying on treadmills & I think most people think nothing will happen to their children, but the truth is, it does happen & you could be next. So everyone should take safety tips seriously when it comes to treadmills or anything at that. We have a treadmill, well we did, but when we had it in the house it was unplugged at all times, locked & the cord that hangs on the bars was cute to prevent the kids from putting their head in the loop. Even with all the safety steps we took, I was still paraniod & we got rid of it. I'm sure Mike Tyson & his wife are kicking themself for not being more aware of treadmill accidents, but maybe this story will help another family who has kids & might have a treadmill in the back room somewhere & maybe start checking their treadmill over to make sure no accidents can happen. I think the best way to prevent this is to just keep the treadmills out of the house & away from kids period. God Bless the Tysons family, I send prayers & hope they can learn to cope with this.

whats sad is that his job is to be fit (or at least when he was a boxer.. i have no idea what he does now lol) so ya know he probably had a lot of equipment and probably didnt even think anything about it

This really sad. I don't think that any parent should have to suffer the lost of a child. I find that it's always sad to hear, when a parent loses their child. I feel really sorry for Tyson and his family. I think that some things can be prevented, but not everything can be prevented.

This was a totally preventable accident. A treadmill, like any machine with moving parts, can be extremely dangerous, especially around small children. There should have been precautions preventing a child of four from having access to something like this.

i remember a childhood friend was near an exercise machine and one of the cords broke (i think its iwas like those bowflex type or something) and gave her a deep cut right at her eye.. like almost took her eye ou.. and she was at least 10 so its not like she was being silly and like a 4 year old climbing on them etc.. so yeah you really got to watch them

The link to the article in the main post won't work for me for some reason, but I did find this article. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8068048.stm It says she was playing on the treadmill and somehow got her head caught in a chord that was hanging from underneath the machine. It was obviously a tragic accident, but why was the child playing on a tread mill without supervision? I wouldn't put a 4 year old on a treadmill anyway. But I suppose she would have watched her dad on it every day and maybe was allowed on it with him but on this day she started it up on her own. Very sad situation my sympathy goes out to the family.

I did not know anything about it until just now. I don't remember knowing he had a small child to begin with. I agree with everyone else, no one should have to bury a child. I am sure they will be asking if the child could have been better supervised for many years to come. It may be a haunting question for them. I pray they find peace.

i just wonder if it was something wrong with the treadmill to where there will be a recall or if it was just a freak accident

Gosh Moon that is such a tradegy. It just goes to show you how quickly a freak accident can happen and take someone that you care for away from you. I didn't know that he had children either, but you know that isn't here nor there. What is the most important thing here is a baby has lost her life over something that probably could have been prevented had they been watching her or making sure that cords and things like that were secured so they could not entangle anyone in them. I pray that God is with this family and they can rest assured that she is in heaven as an angel now. flutterby

Everything could be prevented, the question is, are we willing to accept that no mater how hard we try, accidents are a natural occurrence in life, or will we continue to demand that people preform to perfection. This is a tragic accident, simply because, despite what we are told, it is impossible to watch a child 24/7.

yeah everyone would like to say its the parents fault for not watching (which it still could be) but those poor parents that literally just turned their head for a moment and then something awful happens get treated awful sometimes because people dont understand
27 May 09
I feel really sorry for that poor child because she was only 4. Some really bad people are still alive at the age of 70+ its just a shame that the world doesnt go the way you want it to.

That's tragic! I just found out a child in my daughters class has a brain tumour! He's only 6. Poor love is having surgery tomorrow. As a mother I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be to lose a child. My thoughts are with Mike and this little boy :(

That is terrible. I couldn't imagine what he is going through right now. I didn't know he was married and i also didn't know that he had kids. Was the child not being watched or was she in sight of an adult???

I never saw this news.Whoever it might be losing a child is very sad.One has to be very careful with kids you never know what they might get themselves into. How I wonder this child got entangled in a cord by a treadmill, I simply cannot imagine this.Children should be kept away from going near any gadgets. There should be someone to overlook them. Its terrible, a loss is loss whether the child is young or old.My sympathies for the family.

Children are amazing......they can figure out things....they try things with no fear. I am sure there will be someone who will figure out what went wrong and correct the problem....but a kid can usually find there way around even some of the most well constructed things....It's such a tradgedy.....I really feel for their family!

This is really sad news. I think something could have been done; perhaps an adult supervision or something, especially when there are wiring equipments at home and stuff like that. A child is very fast and agile. One minute they can be near the window ledge and the next, near to a machine and some wires. It's no one's fault and this was written. If only there was an adult supervision, perhaps things would turn out differently. My condolences to Mike's family.
