Hello friends, I am little bit confused about which option should i go for NetBook or NoteBook. As per my requirement i need a .Net develpment environment and also common facilties such as surfing, Office applications etc. Since the Netbooks are quite cheaper than Notebook. I want to know will the Netbook cover all my requirements.

Netbooks are the most recent portable device in the market. They are small, compact, light and are very cute looking. But don't let those fool you because "Looks can be deceiving". Most of the netbooks currently in the market are packed with Atom processors and are mostly 1gb ram. And that's a very weak specification. Atom processors are mainly designed to process very light weight applications like browsers. And netbooks are made for those who are always on the move and need something to just surf the net. Even running a firefox and Office 2007 can cause the OS to hang. So, till now, netbooks would be a waste if you are planning to buy it for .Net development. I would suggest get a laptop because they are really cheap now a days. You can easily get a laptop adding around $150 more to that of netbooks.

I would say go with a lower end notebook. They have around the same ammount of ram but much faster processors, and don't cost much more.

I feel that net book is not suitable for our normal functional applications and programs other than on line activities and browsing. In the note book we can do all of the works in addition to the on line activities. In net book we can do work with some office tools only and this is mainly designed to online activities and that's why it is cheaper in its cost.

What tool do you use for developing .NET applications? The biggest downfall of Netbook is the use of low end CPU which is quite weak. I mean, if you are surfing website, the Atom CPU can do their job nicely but if you need to compile from time to time, you will have to spend a lot of time waiting for the compilation to complete. Also, most Netbook still use the Atom CPU with single core only while most Netbook has used dual core CPU. I think you know how much it mean to have dual core CPU when you need one core to do the compilation work while the other core to allow your system remain active. So, if you use Visual Studio which is well-known of CPU intensive. A netbook may not be a good choice.
