I don't know how to play electric guitars but I'd love to try. I'm good in acoustic guitars how about you?

Before answering the main question, I just would like to raise a question. How could you be good in acoustic guitars and not know how to play electric guitars? There's not much difference. You could make an electric guitar sound like an acoustic guitar (by using a modelling effect), and vice versa (by using acoustic guitar pick-ups, either detachable or not, and effects, if desired) Anyways, I prefer electric guitars because I play metal and rock music.

I see. Well, you should get an electric guitar, and effects too. Experiment, explore the diversity of a guitar and learn how to combine sounds from different effects.

I currently own a classical guitar, six-string steel acoustic, electric solid body and bass guitar. For recording, I prefer the electric ...since it is time consuming to properly set up a microphone for acoustic guitars. Also, an electric has its own unique characteristics and of course adds flexibility with effects pedals. However, for casual use and when writing songs I always tend to grab the classical guitar or six-string acoustic. Also for finger picking, acoustic is the way to go. So, I would really find it difficult to have to choose just one guitar. If you have the opportunity,I would highly recommend trying the electric ... to broaden your musical horizons.

They each have their good points. It's probably better to learn on an acoustic, because electrics don't (usually) require as much pressure on the strings for a crisp tone, and there are so many ways to fudge a sound on electric that you don't really need to learn to be a super technical player to sound good. Look at Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, J. Mascis, etc.

Actually I was wrong to add Hendrix in there, he was an outstanding acoustic player.

I like acoustic guitars because personally i like the sound of it. The smooth sound of acoustic guitars satisfies my ears and i like mellow songs. I used to play guitar before and i prefer to play acoustic guitar rather than electric guitar. Have a nice day....

I know a little bit of playing a guitar since my high school times. I only tried electric guitar and seems to be different with the acoustic which I am used to. I am just an avid player of the acoustic guitar. I have one at home which we always play with my brothers. If I have the chance to carry one of the electric guitar, well I can try to compare their difference with the acoustic.

I love how the electric Guitar can be played. Awesome. Acoustic is great as well, specially with the right player, and is supposed to be easier to play. I have an Electric Guitar, but unfortunately cant play it yet.

Hello cecillecarmela!!! I am also a great fan of music. I like to play guitars and also compose the songs. What is the difference in playing acoustic guitars and electric guitars? I think its the same. The only difference is learn to use the extra gadgets else playing them is totally same as the acoustic guitars. I also prefer acoustic guitars. And my acoustic guitar is my friend for the loneliness. I keep playing and simultaneously sing. But I can only play the chords for the song, I can't play the lead or solo music. I have to learn them. Don't worry, there is nothing special to do in electric guitar in comparison to acoustic guitar. They are same thing, just you have to know how to plug in the electric guitar and then everything is same. Glad to hear about a female guitarist. I don't know any of my lady friends knowing to play guitar. Keep playing music, keep rocking and happy mylotting...

I prefer them both. Acoustic guitars require subtlety and finesse. If you play dirty, it will be heard. Electric guitars tend to cloak mistakes esp with heavyy distortions. I like electrics for more dynamic effects. But I love my acoustic, it's where I started to learn how to play in the first place. LOL.
