A group of us is going to the island of Dominica this summer. We are flying from Houston on Continental to Puerto Rico, then catching American to Dominica. I was just informed that our first checked bag will cost $15 and a second bag will cost $25, each way, on Continental. I have to call American to see what their charges are on an international flight. But $80 more per ticket stings!

Yep, my brother and sister in law just came down from New Jersey and were complaining about this new rule. My sister in law managed to get her things in two suitcases which is a real ordeal for her. She was laughing and saying that she brings at least 5 just for herself on cruises. That's a lot of baggage!

I don't want to have to lug around that much baggage, but going 2 weeks to a foreign country is hard with less than 2 bags!

I agree! Two would be needed for two whole weeks.

When I went to Latvia last year the baggage charges were crazy and way too expensive. I was allowed to take one bag of up to 15kg but I had to pay lots for it to go in the hold. If I had taken two bags of 7.5kg each it would have cost far more. If I had taken three bags of 5g each it would have cost a huge amount of money. I was traveling with my toddler son so the 15kg in one bag was for both of us. I got his buggy carried free but had to pay loads for them to take his travel cot which weighed less than 5kg. It was much better this year when my toddler son and I flew to South Africa this year. My allowance was up to 25kg and my son's allowance was up to 10kg. I found packing really easy and it was relaxing to travel with such an excellent airline. I feel sorry for you having to pay such high baggage charges. Airline policy might be getting worse and some making passengers annoyed. Good luck. Hand luggage only will win it seems.

I would like to think that the dropping number of travelers would cause the airlines to rethink these extra fees.
