Skateboarding is overly dangerous?

I love skateboarding! I have been a skateboarder for over 6 years now. I have been just skating around, and teaching some of my friends some easy tricks. Now I have gotten a bit more into it and teaching my kids. My wife has now gotten into the ordeal and doesn't want them to start skateboarding because it is "overly dangerous." I think skateboarding is just a fun activity for a 7-year old. I am not going to take him any tricks, or take him to any skateparks until he seems ready to do so. Do you think that it is overly dangerous, or too dangerous for the likes of a 7-year old?

Skateboarding is a great sports and includes great skills and if you don't it causes alot of damage as we see on tv which make us laugh. Seems pretty dangerous to me, But if you learn it well and have someone to teach from step to next level then i think there is no problem. Just stay off the rails for a while, stay on your board as much as you can.

My boys have been skateboarding for a while. My oldest, who is now 11 started when he was only 5, and my 8 year old started about the same age. I make them wear a helmet and pads if they are practicing tricks though. I wouldn't say it is any more dangerous than a lot of things that kids enjoy doing, but I would say that protective gear is a food idea. No, i don't think that 7 is to young to skate as long as you are watching and helping to keep him safe.
