Here in the Philippines, some schools will open for this school year on Monday June 1. It will sure be a chaotic time again for parents especially for those whose kids will be in school for the first time. How about you? Can you still remember your first day in school? It was not that traumatic for me because I was often there. My Mom was a teacher and I tend to visit her often. School was a very familiar place for me. I remembered some kids crying though and there were some whose parents were there the whole day, too, to accompany their kids.

am 34 years old and way back then you start late as 4 years old for nursery. now, 3 year old kids are the ones in nursery. anyway, i think i did okay. mom would always tell of one of my brothers as the cry baby during the first few days of school.

Actually, I went directly to first grade. Prep school wasn't required then. I missed that though.

I don't remember my first day of school but I remember going to find the classroom when I was little with parents and being introduced to the teacher and then going off to explore the classroom. School ends about this time of year, depending on county to county it will end sooner or later. Mostly because of weather. I'm not sure when my county will have kids out for vacation, lol, but the neighboring county is June 10 I believe.

That's a different take I think on school life. I think curiosity was won over fear or nerves.

Hi diutay, Gosh! its has been a long time since the first day at school, I didn't cry as I was so shy and didn't say a word but sat in the corner watching all the other kids running around and some were crying but no parents were allowed to stay back in school, our days were different. Tamara

I was so comfortable because I knew the teacher then I knew most of the other kids. lol...If I look back, I think I had the best in my early school years.

I remember my child's first day in school. It was in day care, she was very excited on the first day that she will be in school. First day was good. The next day, she doesn't want to be left alone and cry aloud. I asked her why? She told me that her other classmates' parents were there sitting beside their daughters/sons because they are crying. That is why she is also crying because she wanted me to be there too. I laughed and told her that she is already old and the teacher will get mad at the parents inside the school. So she smiled at me and said she gonna stop crying. I always smile whenever I remember that situation with my child.

Hhmm. Maybe she picked up on the moods of the other kids. Good thinking on your part.

It is same conition in Malaysia too.At first day at school many kids cry because not familiar and get some cultural shock too much.Maybe they are afraid with new condition or the new teacher.

True enough. It's a big change for them. Maybe the parents can do something to prepare them for that eventuality.

I no longer remember my first day in school.. But I remember my grade school days.. Yeah it was fun learning and playing in school. But really there are times (a lot) that I wouldn't want to get up in bed, I could hear my mom's loud voices trying to wake me up, I say I'm awake, but when she leaves the room, I can't help again go back to sleep.. Its like my eyes still heavy to open, lol... And now as a parent, I did understand my kids. I told them to sleep early so they have a lot of rest coz I really don't want them to show up late in school. Good thing my kids classes will be on June 8, and yeah I'm from Philippines.. :P

Waking up so early in the morning were always difficult for me. The number of days when I was late can attest to that. Even now, I still hate getting up early.

my friend was just telling me awhile ago about her sons trip to school the other day, they got his set of books and uniform, it made her so proud and started crying on the spot, even as she told me about it she started crying. i think its the accomplishment of bringing someone into this world and seeing him/her grow up in front of your eyes.:) p.s. i loved my first day of school, everything looked so colorful to me ..i was particularly fascinated by the blackboard which wasnt really black but green hi hi :)

It can be very emotional for parents, I think. I haven't had that experience having no kids of my own but I am sure if I did, I'd be like her too.

Oh, I'm in the Philippines as well. My first day for this school year will start around July, July 12 maybe, I don't know, didn't bother to check. Yeah, it's very chaotic. With all the traffic from 7:00-9:00 with all those cars going to school or work. I end up getting late alot of times and have to go to the guidance counselors office. If you get late more than 3 times in a week, you get suspended. =C. But, its all good. C=!!

I will also have the same feeling as you said. But I will hide it from my child as my child should not have any hard feelings. I cannot forget my first day in school since I was very happy seeing all the new things around me. I enjoyed every moment of my school life.

Do I take it that it can be very traumatic for the parents as well? My Mom was with me that first day I went to school but then she also taught there. I was always there, too, even before I enrolled so I was comfortable in the setting, I think.
