Drinking enough?

They say you are supposed to drink enough water daily. What is it 8 8oz cups a day. Well to be honest, I just started this whole diet thing about a month ago, never drank water, hated the taste of it (exactly, there was no taste, needed sugar to keep me going, so I thought.) Kind of like an appetite suppressant thing, try drinking water when you are hungry they say. (Yes, these are things I have read online), but as I read more I never actually realized that plain water is so important to our bodies, I always thought, hey my coffee was made from water so that counts right? I actually read something that said if your kidneys don't get enough water then your liver has to pick up the slack for it and starts to have to do double work. So my question is do you think you consume enough water throughout your day?

I guess you really do not need to count and monitor how much water you have been drinking in a day.The important thing is that you should drink as much water as you could possibly drink in a day.Water is an essential need of our body, our body itself is composed of 70% water. LAck of it in our body will definitely result into illnesses and deficiencies.

When I first started to try to lose weight, what I drank was one of the first things I changed! I was already drinking some water. That was all I drank at work. But I was drinking a lot of soda at home. I started by making sure I got my 8 glasses of water each day. After that, I allowed myself to drink anything I wanted. After a while, I rarely wanted anything besides water! That one change really made a huge difference for me. It made losing weight much, much easier. I feel so much better. In fact, when I dont drink enough water I can definitely tell! I do drink enough water each day. That is about all I drink and I drink it constantly! Start slow and make a switch over to mostly water. You wont regret it! (It helps to lose weight and you wont believe how much money you are saving!)

I think it is funny that you say that. I am actually the same way, water was the grossest thing to me. Always had soda, or coffee in my hand. But about a 1-2 months ago, I fell into the hype of a diet pill and the only good thing about that diet pill was it turned me into drinking a lot of water. So far I have lost 5 pounds. I am one of those people that always has to drink something all day. So I stopped with the hype of the diet pill and am still drinking water during the day. (I still drink my coffee in the morning, and a small cup of ice tea at night) but I bought soda and has been in my fridge for a month now. And besides the 5 pounds, I also see a major difference with my skin which makes me happier than losing the weight. :)

I drink at least my 8 glasses (2 litres) a day. As you have said, water is essential to our bodies and it is amazing how many people don't drink enough or think that their coffee, tea, cordial, etc, is included in their water intake! Actually, you need to drink 2 extra glasses of water for each cup or tea, coffee, etc, to make up for the dehydration those drinks cause your body - most people don't know this! Also a lot of people seem to have dry or chapped lips and don't realise that this can mean your body is dehydrated and needs more water!

Drinking water......... Hey Imajerseygirl, this is a very good post. It's true that there are two things that our bodies absolutely must have in order to function efficiently, one is water and the other one is exercise. Why we are not taught these important basics in school I'm not sure but if we slack up on either of these two things, our body will begin to feel the effects from it. All that you've stated is true about how our kidneys will mess up if we do not get proper amounts of water. So we need to think about water in terms of flushing all the toxins out of our body. Just as an automobile cannot run without fuel, our bodies cannot run without water. Great post. Peace out..... happy mylotting!

I heard once that if you feel even the little bit thirsty, you are already dehydrated. That's kind of a scary thought. The doctor who said this, said that you should constantly be drinking. That being said, I still don't drink enough water. I know that I'm not doing myself any good. I drink mainly diet soda, which I am hearing is worse for me now than regular soda, and then the caffeine actually dehydrates you more. This is something I have been working on for years. I just have to go ahead and commit myself to doing better with it.

Yes I drink "at least" 2 liters of water a day. Some of it I use a water additive to make my body absorb more. Got a few things in it to really boost the power of water. Anyways, be careful with the Coffee it is a diuretic, makes you urinate more liquid then you consume, and that is not good at all. Water is essential to a healthy balanced lifestyle for sure, just be sure and get the good stuff, use a water filter on your taps or buy it in bottles, or get it right from the source...if you are somewhere where you would feel comfortable drinking from the head waters of a stream. Not like, the part of the stream that goes through a city or something, but like right were the river starts...Very Very tasty water.

I love water!!!! Especially a glass of ice cold water on a hot summer day! But I do drink plenty of it every day. I typically try to drink my 1 liter bottle 3 times. So I tend to get around 3 liters of water a day. There are some days I don't get quite that much in or maybe I get a little more. But that would be my average.

No, I know I don't drink enough water. That has been a problem for me for years. It isn't that I drink sugary drinks, I just don't drink. Period. I am never thirsty. I have probably gone my whole life to date massively dehydrated and not knowing it! Good thing I eat a lot of salads and stuff, because you can get a percentage of your daily water from that. I have to force myself to drink enough water in a day. When I do, I feel really good. Unfortunately, that isn't enough to make me keep doing it!

there are several ways one can look at this issue, medical experts suggests that an individual should drink at least 2 liters of water a day, people who have bigger size bodies will need more because it takes some time before water can circulate the body, likewise people who are physically active deserve to drink more

When i'm at home i think i feel more thirsty and drink sufficient water. But when i'm at work in an completely air conditioned workspace i really don't feel thirsty! Actually drinking plenty of water detoxifies the body and cleanses the skin. But i read it somewhere that drinking excessive water may cause dehydration!

You see - I don't, but I never seem to be dehydrated. I think I take in enough fluids a day just not the "average recommended amount".

Hello imajerseygirl! Drinking water is definitely important for everyone. We can go on for days without food but not without water. Drinking water gives us a lot of benefits. Water is an essential nutrient. All chemical reactions in the body depend upon it. If you’re trying to lose weight, this can’t be ignored. You won’t be able to lose weight without water to flush out the by-products of fat breakdown. When there isn’t enough water to dilute the body’s waste products, kidney stones may form. When the kidneys aren’t working to their full potential, the liver must step in and help. Once this happens the liver can’t optimally perform its other important functions. In many cases, fatigue, headaches and back pain may be caused by dehydration. If you suffer from an afternoon nod off, try drinking more water at lunch. If you or your children complain of frequent headaches, the amount of water you’re drinking could be responsible. And, muscle spasms are also caused by not being adequately hydrated. Experts say that hunger pangs are often misinterpreted cravings for water. Try drinking water before your regular meals and see if it helps you cut down on the amount of food you eat. It really works as an effective appetite suppressant. Avoid counting tea, coffee, sodas and juices in your fluid intake. Coffee and tea contain caffeine which has a diuretic effect and makes you lose water. Sodas and juices are too sweet—because the body must dilute them, they cause more dehydration. When the skin is properly hydrated, it looks plump and more radiant. Water will keep the toxins flushed out and help you to cool off through perspiration. Muscles need to have enough water to make them look full too. Deprive yourself of water and you’ll see the difference in the mirror.

DRINKING 8 CUP water at a day is right. Sugerly stuff makes you fat. When you eat something it digest really long and if you drink water it will digest fast so you won't be fat

Hi, ya you're right. Water is very important for our body metablism, waster removal and also essential for many more cell functions to go on well. According to studies, we should drink at least 8 glasses or 2.5 litre (about that, not really remember, haha) each day. However, for me i think me myself also do not have enough water in a day. I can estimate that i only drink about 1.8 or 2 litres of water in a day. Not much reason behind it, just that maybe i'm too busy for it until i forgotten to drink, or i can't drink too much because i think it's sometimes troublesome to go to the toilet too often, haha.

I definitely make an effort to drink enough water. It has made a huge difference for my weight loss. But I really just wanted to comment about something you said... In Jersey, the water does have a taste. And it often isnt a good one! I think that is part of the reason that people dont like water, because they always have water that is treated with a bunch of crap and makes it taste awful!

I agree with you. When I was living in Jersey I would never drink the water. Only water I drank was deer park (poland spring made me sick for some reason), and that got a little expensive. But now that I live in NC and we have well water, let me tell you there is a major difference in taste. It tastes so much cleaner that I can't get enough of it. I do agree with you on it helping with the weight loss, makes a major difference.

Yeah, bottled water does get quite expensive! I had a well growing up, it was fantastic. Now I have city water and it sucks! I have a Brita pitcher to make it better, but I definitely miss having a well!
