Ive been making friends on the internet for a few years now. Met up with most of them who till today still keeps in touch with me. Then a few days back, a colleague told me that i was so pathetic to be finding friends on the net when i could just go out and socialise and still make a lot of friends. She make it sound like i'm some kinda loser. Tell me guys... Do you ever feel that you're pathetic just because you're hiding behind a screen and chatting anonymously with a stranger u call a 'friend'??

I've made a lot of friends online and they are the ones that I often have the most in common with. I play online games and have made friends all over the world. Now, I am an older guy and most people think it's funny that I play online games, but the friendships are real. Last year, I was invited to a friend's wedding in Singapore. I generally find that there is less bias in terms of race and age among my online friends. As long as you have balance in your life, I think it is perfectly fine. So although I am online chatting with friends, I used to have a responsible job, spouse, and real life friends at work. Now that I'm retired, I'm planning to visit all my best buddies from around the world. I also have some friends who met their wives online and they seem to be quite happily married. I don't think their marriages are any better or worse than others because they met online.

I have been online for 10 years now and have made many beautiful friends, some of whom I've met in person. Whoever told you it was "pathetic" has never had the same experiences as you and I. Just let it roll off your back, and cherish all your friends, online or off : ) Karen
