Amber Alert

Yesterday morning on my way to work, I was informed from all over the place that there was an Amber Alert. The huge electronic sign on the side of the road gave the information of the car and license plate number. On the radio they were talking about it. A 9 year old girl and her mother were abducted. The mother called 911 from the trunk of a car they were in. By the time I was on my way to work, the car they had been in was found. The mother and daughter still hadnt been found. It was heart breaking and terrifying. Last night, the truth came out. The mother faked the whole thing. She borrowed a license from a former coworker. The mother took the daughter down to Disney World. She had withdrawn $12,000 in the past week from the bank. The mother is in custody. The daughter will be returned to her father. The mother is being charged with 2 misdemeanors. They are also investigating if the mother stole money from the law firm she worked for and a nonprofit that she was a director for. This whole thing makes me outraged! How could someone do that? Amber Alerts are a very important way of helping people in a serious situation. I still remember the license plate number, just in case I saw the car! What was that mother thinking? Did she really think she wouldnt be caught? Had you heard about this situation? What do you think of this mother? What do you do when you hear about an Amber Alert? Has there ever been an Amber Alert in your local area?

It is very upsetting. And it just makes you wonder what the world is coming to. We have had Amber Alerts in our area before, and I take them very seriously. What is going to happen if people begin not to take these seriously because of situations like this? I was actually in a local pub which is right next door to a hotel when the SWAT team came in and searched upstairs and down for a man. I guess he had kidnapped a child and his car was parked next door at the hotel. No one in the whole place moved until they found out he wasn't there. They eventually found him in the area, and the child was returned to the parents.

That must have been pretty scary to have the SWAT team come in like that! Im always glad to hear when the child is safely returned, though. It worries me that people will abuse the amber alert system to get back at someone because it is scary to think that there might be a day when people dont take the amber alerts seriously. That is really a scary thought.

This is very disturbing. When I heard about it I just couldn't put myself in the mind set to really understand it. Amber Alerts should be taken seriously and it's extemely wrong to abuse that system. I just don't get what the mother was trying to pull or why.

I think that is the part that worries me the most - some day people will stop taking the amber alerts seriously if people keep doing stuff like this! The mother has other children as well. I hope that she does go to jail and is never again allowed to have custody of any of her children!
