i just finished rereading this book and would recommend it very highly! it was also a movie. the story is about a family who have 10 kids during the 50's. the dad is an alcoholic and spends most of his paycheque. the mom enters contests to win and basically support their lives (keep them fed etc). (the contests back then were more skillful than today.) this book seems to almost mirror what is going on with a lot of families today (not necessarily the alcoholic part) but many families are going through tough times financially. read the book! http://www.theprizewinner.com/
