Why do stores list different colors as seperate entries (especially electronics)

I'm shopping for a camera and getting so annoyed that websites list each color as a separate entry. SOOOO This leads to 30+ entries coming up for my specs even though there are really only about a dozen. It gets hard to compare cameras when you have to look closely at all the model numbers to see if it's the same one or not.
Amazon usually lists only one item and then lets you choose a color. Clothing stores do the same. So why do electronics stores list them all one by one? Does this irritate you? It's nice to know there are color options but I'm not going to buy a camera based on the color alone. I'd much rather have fewer entries to dig through!
In addition, b/c there are 5 separate entries for the same camera, there are 5 different places for reviews! So I end up having to open each one for reviews :( Boooo

I would also think it helps them keep better track of their inventory.

Well, I know I'm one of those people who actually cares about color for whatever reason. The reason they list each one by color is so that people can choose the color they want, instead of having the company pick a color for them.
