If the trick is good, do you tip?

Some of us answer the same MyLot questions a million times. That inspired a thought. Why not post them all in one spot so we can point new comers here? We can all post our tips and thoughts and add new ones as things come up. I'll add some things to get us started.... Then you folks add what you have learned while you've been here. Chimes says: 1. If you are here to get rich... you are so in the wrong place. If you are here to get some pocket change or to earn enough to save up for something... then put in some time and effort and you should do ok. If you are here to talk to interesting people, make friends, and generally hang out... then you found a great place. 2. Not everyone thinks the way you do. Face it, deal with it, and then start debating with respect. Be careful because some members have sharp teeth and sharper claws. 3. Read the FAQ and the guidelines before you post. Re-read them before you report some one. Read them again just because you'll forget and they change them from time to time. 4. Before you start posting, sit back and read a few discussions created by people who have been here awhile. Get a feel for the place. That will teach you more then you know. 5. Stars come after 100 posts. Color depends on how people click you + or -. Not everyone cares about it because they no some other people click the (-) just to be rude. You get the smileys after 200 posts. I keep hoping they add more of them. You get to copy and paste after 500. Do yourself and everyone else a huge favor and don't abuse the privilege. Don't steal content from other places. 6. Links to referral sites are bad and people will tell you so. DON'T put them in your discussions. Links to articles, music, ect. are welcomed by members. These will help you avoid stealing content. Those are my starts since I know that I'll run out of space and I know you all can add more to it... Anyone adding today?

Oh yes! This is a great idea. Another useful thing for newbies to read would be the myLot Guidelines. Whenever someone new starts a discussion & is asking these very basic questions - I try to refer them to reading the guidelines. It's really not that hard to ask, and it's helpful when you're just starting out. But this is a great list. If I see any confused newbs, I'll try to point them in the direction of this discussion.

There are also people who think that MyLot is for having fun (which it is, of course) but then they post stuff which has its place on PickJack and wonder why they are hounded out!

Maybe it's just worded too long so they don't read it? Maybe? Maybe this way we can clear up issues people can't seem to get with just the guidelines.

Great Chimes and I hope many will see this! I add to what you already said: - read any advice given by 'veteran' users. They are telling you things for your own benefit and because they want you to get off to a good start and enjoy your time as a Lotter! - many questions are answered in the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) so check there first before posting a discussion which will eventually be deleted. New users are more than welcome and those that are willing to do things the way they should be done and have fun here will go far!

With out new comers the place will get dull and even more repetitive then it already is. Ick! Like I told Owl... there is a few things that they should learn that you can't get from those links but that if you observe or ask a veteran you will find out. Practical things.

I'll assume Owlwings was refering to the misunderstanding about the historical thumbs up or thumbs down. During the roman era in the gladiatorial ring thumbs up meant stick the sword in his gut. Thumbs down meant sheath the sword he did a good job & deserves to live. So I'll give you a historically correct

Good day, TL...this is a good one from you.. I have nothing much to add, just that sometimes I feel the questions are deliberately asked when some users already know the answer. Like they know you can't be earning $100 or $500 per month here, and they keep asking can you earn that amount in mylot... And some other questions like is this site legit? I've seen those kinds of discussions too, aplenty. When there are just so many I've got payment kind of discussions, the questions whether mylot pays is still there. Beats me at times..

Yes that aways amazes me too. With so many happy members it is blatantly obvious without having to ask!

LOLz...I've always love reading both of your comments, there's always some nice and fun remarks. I'm trying to learn the tricks of the trade, but it's just so awesome being myself, chatting and whatnot. In fact, my energy in my Facebook game has been replenished fully but I'm still neglecting it for a bit. Enjoying mylotting here. I can't hear the 'kaching' sound making its way to my Paypal soon..LOL. Have a nice day, sweet ladies..

I think you've pretty much covered the important points! Numbers 3 and 6 should be repeated and in bold, capital print!! I would also add something I read the other day in the FAQ--+ or - someone but judge according to what they contribute to the discussion. Just because they disagree with your opinion doesn't mean you should "-" them. If it contributes to the subject and makes people think, it deserves a "+"! Actually, the only ones I "-" are one line answers that are inappropriate and show no effort or thought. And I do that rarely.

(-) should be reserved for really special folks who are rude, evil, or generally have no clue. Spammers too. I don't need to use it often. I use the (+) often... I love peoople who give quality responces even if we don't agree on everything.

Hi TLChimes, Wow!!! I think you have said the lot, but only only thing I wnat to say to add to that is PLEASE DON'T do a disucssion asking weather how many time you have a bath, I don't think that is a discussion, its just a question. Tamara

I can't stand those discussions... so I don't even bother going to them. Such a waste of time and energy.

1. Add friends from you interest groups . Adding friends gives you more choices. 2. Don't limit your interests. Expand your horizons, that way you can always find something of interest. 3. Rate things if you want to be reated. 4. Ask questions. 5. Check out all the tabs when you start so you know what your dealing with.

This is a great place to get everyone's opinion. It's also a great place to check if you have a question about how to do something, whether it's hang curtains, break up with a boyfriend or build a deck. MyLotters will also let you know what's the best camera or frozen pizza!

I'd just like to quickly say that I really appreciate you posting this. The tips are great, and the first one is great! I'm here to make a little pocket change, enough to buy a few things online, but mostly I like improving my stats, and killing some time :) I've got to find the rules and read them again, I feel like I should.

on a personal note, I would just like to add, that unlike signs that you may see at the zoo or at certain campgrounds...........here at myLot, you are encouraged TO feed the bears.

Well said Chimes! You have covered the basics really well; very helpful advice indeed. The only thing I can add is something that got one of my discussions deleted; be careful with your choice of words; I started a topic and in it, I used the words “Want to play?” to encourage responses. My discussion was not a game at all but due to this from the guidelines: … Now for the DON'Ts …Starting game and poll type discussions. It was well and truly reported and deleted so my advice is be careful with your words!

Geart advice Chimes. I just hope everyone gets to read it. A lot of people do miss the guidelines. I know when I strated I did not even see the guidelines down the bottom of the page. When I discovered them I did learn a lot. It is members of mylot like you that are a credit to the community, always willing to lend a hand to those who need a bit of guidance. Well done

Yes I know what you mean Alice, when I fist joined myLot I struggled to find out how it worked and I was a little confused buy it all. But there are so many members on here like MysD to lend a helping hand. I can see why it is always worth helping out anyone new to the site as it can lead to some interesting and fun discussions and members, once someone finds their feet on here, it is always good

Well you have summed it up beautifully......but all i would like to say is please "read the entire description of the discussion carefully".......because sometimes the title does not mean what it says, or rather you did not get it quite right.......i have been having issues with people not reading the description carefully and then come to their own conclusions which is not actually aimed at........ Happy mylotting !!!!
