Words you can die for.

Why is it that so many people are willing to "DIE" for their God or religion? And further more how in the world is it that many more are willing to KILL for their God or religion? What kind of God do we worship that he would need the help of mere mortals to kill and die for him?

If all the world were as wise as Lord Bertrand Russell who said, "I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong." we would all be a lot better off.
People die and kill for a variety of reasons. Religious dogma is one of the dumbest.

People are willing to kill and die for many things. People kill and die for money, land, love, lack of love, resources, politics, values....pretty much everything under the sun. Has anyone ever considered that it is not religion that really makes people kill one another? When a person wants power, and when they feel they need to kill to get that power, they find whatever reason they can to do so. Religion is just a scapegoat for the real reasons that people kill each other. That does not mean that religion is inherently flawed. It just means that people are inherently flawed, and they screw up everything they touch, including religion.

My God wouldn't ask me to die for him. Just like it isn't my God's will that made my son sick, or Bella's doctors screw up, or any other crapped thing that happened.

Somehow we lost the idea that God is love and that the primary commandment is to love God and love our fellow man. There is much that can be said about all of this and debated. I really don't feel like debating, so I will just leave it as I have written above.
