Wow... with that amount of money every month... a person can live like a king in my country... since the standard of living is not that high where i live... i would live a comfortable life with $1000... but right now... i only need around $5000 each month to be able to get by... but that doesn't include expenses like eating out or going to the mall once a week...

I live in the Philippines... but even if the cost of living is low... you might not like the weather... it can be very unpredictable...

My expenses are quite low for the first time in my life! My house is paid for though it still needs some things done to it. My electric runs about $50 every 2 month, my internet and phone line is $40 every month, Satellite TV, $40 every month, gas for cooking is about $20 every 3 months. I have no credit cards or loans so if I didn't go out I could live for $500 - $600 a month and still eat well and have my amenities. The thing is that I have moved to the state of the Yucatan in Mexico, when I was living back in the US I couldn't have bought food for what I live on now.

Is it hard to find a place to live in Mexico? Is it hard to get permission to live there?

There are still some great deals here. You can actually live here for 6 months a year with only the card that you get on the flight over. To live here permanently you need an FM3 the Mexican equivalent to a green card. If you go to my profile I have a link to my blog about living and buying property here. Thanks for responding and happy mylotting.

we generally have some left over to spend, but not a whole lot. we are very careful with our money and do other things to make more money so that we can have or do little extras like going out for ice cream as a family.

I am trying to figure that out right now. I am trying to get away with spending as little as possible. My mortgage right now is 800 dollars a month which isnt bad for a mortgage but I would like to make it less. I applied for a modification on this mortgage, but it is something that I am working on.

Hi littlefranciscan - Gee, I don't know... our rent is around $900 a month. Then, since there are 3 of us in the family, plus our cat & dog, we need at the very very least $100 a week for groceries. We have tons of bills too. Besides the basic ones like electricity, water, gas, etc, my husband has two very high student loans. We also have a car payment every month. I guess we'd need "at least" a few thousands just to get all of those taken care of. Jill

I live with my parents in a public housing estate so my expenses every month is quite low. I think only a few hundred bucks will do. I tend to control the money I need to spend by requiring myself not to buy things at the first sight even I know I want that. I require myself to think through by walking away from the product I want so that I can think through it whether I truly need it and whether I can afford it. By doing this, I can eliminate a large number of unnecessary purchases.

I guess it's nice to live with your parents, perhaps some day you will move out on your own?

I figure that we need about 2000-3000 a month for expenses. It's really difficult right now since my husband isn't working. Although, he is trying to find something. I'm doing what I can to earn some extra money at home. It can be slow and frustrating at times.
