I have to serve Jury Duty...

This is just so strange because last week I was just thinking about the last (and only previous) time I did my jury duty stint. It was about 10 years ago I guess and I almost got on a jury. I was excused because an incident that happened in my past was very close to the incident going to trial. Well, last night we got home and I saw that there was a summons for me in my mail, from the courthouse. I just couldn't believe that I have to do this again! Of course it's much easier now. Before you had to actually go to the courthouse every morning, fight traffic, find a place to park, get your $15 pay and wait for them to tell you if they had a trial for you. This went on for a week, so that meant I was late for work every day, and if they thought there was going to be a trial, you were there for longer, possibly all day. Now, you call in the night before and they tell you if you need to come in the next day or not. I always have mixed feelings about jury duty because I think it would be VERY interesting to be on a jury, but I really don't have the time for it. Have you ever had to do jury duty or get picked to be on a jury? Tell us your stories!!!

I was picked for jury duty right after registering in my county to vote. Big time Bummer! Fortunately the did not like my answers to their questions and they dismissed me! However I did blow 2 whole long grueling days sitting and waiting and sitting and waiting more. It was a total pain in the bum! I feel for you!

Hopefully they wont need me. It's great now that you just call in the night before and see if they need you to come the next day. Last time was such a pain to go down there to sit and wait for nothing.

Ours is all computerized here locally. I was sent a paper stating that I may have to do Jury Duty. I filled out the form online. I waited a while and never heard anything. Then about 5 or 6 months later, I received another form, and filled it out online. Then I believe I was given a date. And just as you stated, I had to call the night before and the automated system advised me that I did not have to appear for Jury Duty. I suppose there must have been some plea bargaining involved in the trial, and they no longer needed a jury.

I know that around here there aren't always jury trials so you only have to really go if they need a jury. I guess I'll be finding out in a couple weeks!
