Whats Wrong With My Wireless Internet Connection?

Ok my wireless connection went out in my bedroom and i've tried so many things to get back online. It suddenly went out and whats also wierd is my xbox 360 wireless network adapter lost connection at the same time my wireless computer connection couldn't get online. Its very hard for me to believe its just my computer when my xbox live connection quit working as well. I've had techical support over the phone and they couldn't help me get it work and had to Charter(my internet subscriber)send to repair men to try and get the problem solved at my house and they couldn't figure it out. They tried diffrent network adapters for my pc. I told them about the xbox live connection messing up at the same time so one repair guy brought in his own laptop to see if he could get a wireless connection with his laptop and he did and said it wasn't the router that was the problem but I wasn't totally convinced as I wish he would had hooked up a diffrent router to make sure it wasn't causing a wireless connection problem for my computer. Its connected but the signal is not strong enough to access the internet via wireless connection. It leads me to another question. Is somebody stealing my wireless signal? I did make a change so nobody could get my wireless signal so that was a change that was needed than I got onine for like 10 seconds and than it quit working again. Could somebody have any advice for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try changing the wireless channel? Sometimes another device using the same channel can interfere with the signal. A stronger signal can 'kill' the weaker signal. The wireless stations, your computer and the XBox become confused. If you have not done so and your router has a function or menu to change the channel then try changing it first. In a worse situation you could be a victim of radio jamming. Have you checked for malware? Last Wednesday one of my sons accessed an online game website. It created havoc to my router. I had to reset it to factory defaults before making further changes. all the best, rosdimy

i don't why i didn't think of what i did months back because i did it several times on my gateway. yeah i finally got my wireless connection working and my xbox 360 network adapter when i restored the wireless connection pc to factory defaults on my emachine. i had to do the same thing years back on my crappy gateway pc which i no longer use but its just been so long since i did that it escaped from my mind because so much stuff has happened since then. the tricky thing that made me not think i had to restore to factory defaults was my xbox 360 network adapter went out at the same time unlike the gateway where i didn't even have an xbox 360 then. well, the last option worked or else i was going to just switch back to the cable modem and dump the router.

It can happen to many of us due to possible information overload, similar to the case of the absent minded professor. We think too much of new and cmplex things leading to forgetting simple things. That is why we need friends. At least things are working normally for you.

I am not much help, but we sometimes have to unhook everything and hook up again. I would have no other ideas.

Hi elmiko, the service of internet connection as well as is always out of my ability to cope with it. From the signal lights shown on the wireless router I could know whether the connection is in the good condition or not. Sometimes I find I couldn’t access well internet connection from the signal pane displays on my pc. I feel really happy if I could see the statement “currently connected to local and internet” occurring when I let the cursor sit still on the signal pane. If the signal is not strong enough and I could see only “connected to local” instead of the former one. I would restart my pc again. If I still couldn’t access steady network, I know the internet service provider never serves the network service well. I also try to check out whether it’s the router or the isp problem by visiting the nearby fastfood restaurant and if I could get on internet without any problem. I usually would make a call to the isp and to hasten them to check and get my network connection solved as fast as possible. I have set a couple sets of passwords to avoid others to steal my wireless connection. Hope that the ways I check the network connection would give you some ideas anyway Happy posting

It sounds a lot like the router to me, too. If everything that goes through the router quit, then that has to be what it is. That's the last piece of equipment before the modem and internet. If you can borrow another wireless router, I'd definitely try that out.

i can't borrow one as i don't know of anybody who has one so thats out of the question unless i would buy a router and i wouldn't do that. i guess i could ask the cable company if i could switch routers. i feel i at least deserve that since i'm pay $10 a month for the router thats not even giving me a working wireless connection. i'll see what i can do.
