We have been reading online about aquaponics , and are thinking of starting this on our back patio . Aquaponics .. Nutrient rich fish water is pumped from a fish tank into gravel beds where plants are growing, they extract the nutrients from the water and the water is drained back to the fish tank all cleaned and oxygenated . We already have our fish tank, pump, container and gravel. All we need are fish and plants and we are set! I think its so simple how the fish dirt feeds the plants and the plants clean the water for the fish. Plants grow like crazy this way ! Has anyone else tried this ? What do ya think of it ?

It sounds like a great idea to me. Can Rick figure out how to do it? When I had an aquarium back home I would drain out part of it to add fresh and put the fish water on my house plants they really thrived. I would love to have an aquarium again, they are so peaceful and tranquil, plus what a great way to ferilize the plants here they really need it!

great idea, but....I am in Chicago, winters are here very harsh and what would I do with my aquatics during the winter?....plus...sounds like hard work to start....and very costly to purchase all ingredients....and fish...and plants.... Not mentioned mosquito attracted to water... Maybe I think with Chicago weather in mind....I get rid of my fountain because of mosquito...
