Many people say that they are "saved" once they are batized. Do the Holy Scriptures support this?

in my understanding... the symbol of water baptism is burying your old self, it does not mean that when you are baptized your sins are forgiven... water baptism is being a new person, when immersed from the water the old 'you' i buried under the water and the new 'you' has come out. and that you had testified (or solidified - i dont really know how to say it in english) your new faith in Christ. the bible says confess your sins and it will be forgiven.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I too believe that baptism is a step you take to changing yourself. You come out of the water as a new person in the sense that you no longer live for yourself but live to do God's will. Faith, repentance and confession and letting go of bad ways is what leads to forgiveness of sins.

We are forgiven through the blood of Christ.

no, it is the next step you take after asking Jesus into your heart. this signifies that you are burying your 'old self' and taking on a new self because you are following the teachings of Jesus Christ. See Matt 3:13 to the end of the chapter. hope this helps.

Baptism is a very important step in a person's life. You take baptism when you are fully aware that you are going to live a new life pleasing God.

Like everyone has said, your sinds arn't forgiven through baptism. The bible says that the only way to be forgiven is "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved" - saved meaning that your sins are forgiven. Baptism isn't only a symbolisation of a renewed person, getting rid of your old self. Some christians have been baptised 20 years later from the day that they recieved Christ. Baptism is a declaration. A declaration of your faith, showing all people that you are indeed a follower of Christ and of course a declaration of renewal and restoration. :) beej
