How can we encourage our children to read and write? i think it is necessary to have an interest to read and write in order for them to do that more.how can we help them grow that interest? i read to my kids daily.what else can be done?all ideas are welcome.

I think you're well on the way already. Your children learn from your example, so if you read to them or if they see you constantly reading then they think reading is a good thing and, generally, they tend to do it more often. I know my mother used to read to me for at least an hour each day. I'd even drag a newspaper over for her to read to me if we ran out of other things! And even today I still love reading and I very much enjoy creative writing (another thing I picked up from her). So I think you're doing what you can to interest them. Maybe start taking them to the library and letting them pick out more books? Anything that you can do to get them excited about books and reading will only help to keep their interest later on. ^_^

I have three nephews and two nieces, I buy books for them, many books infact either to paint or to read and then when they are at home I read a lot to them. I have a whiteboard at home and I tell them to write everything they wish to be able to get simple words. I paint little images for them to recognise and I write on plates and stick it around the house for them to read and learn easily. I write on rocks which are for decorations and while playing on it they read at the same time. There is a book with them everytime they go outside the house in the car to be able to continue with the reading. I take them to bookstores many times and now they even choose the books they want and ask me to buy them. The elder one has even saved his pocket money to buy a book.

I think the best way to get our children into reading is exactly what you're doing. Read to them. When they get old enough to read to themselves, then we need to find books that hold their interest. Make it fun for them.
