Book Title: Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy Book Author: Gary D. Schmidt Awards: Newberry Honor Award Plot: A white boy from Boston, Massachusetts moves to the small city of Phippsburg, Maine. He is the son of a minister and everyone accepts his father, but he is left alone and made fun of. He is made fun of for his failures and gets in a lot of trouble because everyone in Phippsburg believes that he is perfect since he is a minister's son. Then he meets a "negro" and they become great friends. Even though their skin difference nothing kept them apart. Then a group of entrepreneurs come to visit Phippsburg to develop the tourist industry since boats are going out of use. The island of Malaga off the coast of Phippsburg holds the colony of the "negros," even though they are in the north they blacks are still criticized, they are removed form society. Now the entrepreneurs are working to clear the island and then burn down all of their houses. They even dug up their graves and moved to Pownal, an old mental institute.
