Sometimes we eat fish soup with a difference, the soup is served with the piece of fish on the side so in effect the soup serves as both starter and main course, plus that way it's also easier to get the bones out of the fish. Lots of restaurants here serve it that way or you can see on menus fish soup without the fish or fish soup with fish. I thought it was a bit odd at first to see fish soup without fish but it is delicious as has all the flavours.

i personally don't prefer soups because i feel half full by the time the main meal is served. But soups are healthy for sure and i have them when ever i'm hungry in the evenings :)

hmm I like soup very much but I won't say it is a good started for food because soup makes me feel full easy, hmm maybe it depends on what types of soup, some makes you appetized, some makes you feel full.

It depends on the soup. Many asian soups are simple clear soups with vegetables made from a stock. These can be very healthy and help to fill you up with the meal. Some soups with heavy creams and fatty meats may not be as healthy to consume in large quantities.

I think it is because it sort of fills your stomach before the main dish. You tend not to overeat if you have soup first. I'd like to add that a cup of soup will do because some soups are not exactly healthy because they may be high in sodium, calories, and carbs. Soup as a starter must still be eaten in moderation.

I suppose it could be, depending on the soup. If I were going to be having soup as a starter I think I would want it to be something light. Otherwise it might be too filling. After all, often soup will be my entire meal- on its own, without anything else. If I had a hearty soup and then more after that that might be too much food for me. But for something more light I think that it would be appropriate.
