How did your baby or toddler wean from nursing?

My little one is 20 months old and still nursing. I think I will let him self-wean, but it depends on how long he continues. Now, he basically only nurses at night. We cosleep and I think that encourages extended nursing. How did it go with your child? Did they self-wean, or did you encourage or force it? How did it go? How old was your baby when they weaned? Was it difficult? If you are not there yet, what do you THINK you would do?

I have 2 children and I weaned them myself because one was 13 months and the other was just hurting me too much and I would bleed for 30 minutes after each feeding and they had sores on them so I weaned him at 7 months it went okay it was rough the first night or two but then they got the new routine and it was okay from there. Good luck to you I hope it works out the way you want it to.

Oh my, I am pretty sure I would wean if that were my situation as well. That sounds really rough. I'm glad it worked out for you. For us, so far so good. But I like to be prepared and know what works best if I should decide to wean.

I'm really just looking for other peoples' experience at this point. I'm sure my husband will be very helpful if I decide to help him wean.
