I think there should be a age limit on when teenagers get a credit card. I know when I was 18 I used it for all of the wrong reasons as well as the majority of the people I know. I think it is a guge responsibility and put college and its expense into it ists asking a lot for a kid to take on. What do you think ?

There is no false in the system. Everyone should be able to control themselves. Puberty is a period of unstable, the need mentors. Does not guarantee the age restriction does not happen abuse. Also many adults who abuse credit cards.

I think 18 is a reasonable age, but I would recommend only using one credit card. My friend got like four or five cards by 18 and now she owes to all of them. Also you have to have an income to manage those cards. For me I was offered plenty of times but never got one. I feel now I should of but I manage my money well. I am 21 and dont have a credit card and never have.

Hi there, FoxRocks. Let me take this opportunity to send out a great big WELCOME to you, as it appears you are fairly new here in myLot. You are right. Credit cards are a huge responsibility. And it doesn't matter about the upbringing of the kids, they all handle it differently. Just like credit in general I think. I have seen two brothers who are completely different when it comes to money and credit. So how can we determine which ones to give the money too, and which not. I think the credit card companies just need to go back to the way the were in the 80's. The limits were a lot stricter, and you had to have higher incomes in order to qualify. I, myself, qualified to purchase my first home before I ever even qualified for a credit card.

Being only 20 myself, I can see where temptation of what most youngsters would call " free money" oh how they are wrong! I have never even used a credit card myself, just for the factor I would rather not be bothered by the fact of having to pay back with interest. If I am going to buy something I would want to buy it in full then and there if possible. Credit cards given to a certain age groups should be limited depending on their understanding of what a credit card means, what the real purpose of it should be used for and on what it should be used for. TI should also be only given to those who believe that they can be mature enough with one to use it in a profitable way ( no pun intended).

I dont agree if the teenager get and use credit card in a young ages.I think they should get it when they are become adult and have their own good job. Many teenagers failed and get trapped when they use credit card wrongly.I think it is because they are not mature and just want to have big fun. There should have age limit for credit card user.Thank you.

I dont think that 18 is a bad time to get a credit card. I got a credit card at 18 and have never had credit card debt! Changing the age at which someone can get a credit card wont really change anything. There needs to be more education about finances. In schools and at home! That way people are more prepared when they do get a credit card or have to take care of their own bills.

I think 18 is a good age- they're legal and have access to everything else anyways, so they should learn to take on the responsibility of a credit card. Of course, to use a credit card they must be educated on how one works- the interest rates, the minimum payments, and the huge consequences, debts and ruined credit scores if bills aren't paid on time. If teenagers were taught and understand all this before they get to hold a credit card, I say- why not :) Right now, the main problem is that people view credit cards as free cash that doesn't have to be paid till later...and that's why there's so much debt.

I think 14 and up- but for a debit card because you have the money already; you can't overspend.
