Are you afraid of the unfamiliar?

Do you let unfamiliar ideas frighten or upset you? Rather then letting that happen, I think we should sit up and take notice because we can inevitably learn from them. While we may feel a degree of discomfort as we move away from the boundaries of our usual comfort zone, we will soon come to see that there is much to discover in a wide open universe. There will be some ideas that strike us as valuable, and we may want to integrate these into our everyday experiences. Other notions will not meet our needs, and these we can examine thoroughly before putting them aside. However,If we open ourselves to new ways of thinking today, it could prove a great asset to us in the future.

Pose- I recall when my own beliefs were challenged by friends that I resented the ones doing so. I even walked way from some very good relationships because I didn't understand what they were getting at. Since my time studying, I came to realize they were doing it for my better good spiritually, and I went back to those relationships. With open arms they took me back into their friendship and guidance knowing I simply had to experience in order to gain perception. Thank the Goddess for friends like that who weren't going to allow my own ego to get in my way of learning and growth. Now, I push those comfort zones for growth. I find that I don't feel as uncomfortable anymore because I want to see growth in my life. It doesn't mean that things aren't uncomfortable, it's that I experience the uncomfortable things in order to gain perspective of my own life. Namaste-Anora

I am not afraid of the unfamilliar. If I was afraod of the unfamilliar, then I would never be able to learn anything new, or enjoy whatever new experiences life has to offer. I am always testing new limits, and looking for new things in life to experience. My husband is the same way. We enjoy the unfamilliar together.

It depends on what the idea is....I have taken many risks trying new things...and what I don't know about I try to educate myself to learn what I need to know. But there are areas where I wouldn't even try to open myself up to....yes..call it fear of the unknown.....

Hi jillhill, You are not alone in this, most of us don't want to move outside our comfort zone. When we do however, we are usually rewarded. Thanks for responding. Blessings.

The unfamiliar thing is a challenge. However, I am not afarid of them anyway.Without discarding the old idea there would be no coming of the new. Without trying the unfamiliar ideas, we won't get chances to improve the current situation! Best wishes!

Hey you are so very right......i feel we love to be in our own comfort zone.....we don't even want to think about taking a risk, specially if it is in the face of uncertainties.......and then we end up being the way we are.....all the people who are at the top are there because they took the first step, if they thought, let it be someone else will do it they would have still been the way they are.......all the famous people are famous because they did something out of their comfort zone, they went through pains, they went through insults, they went through loses, so what ? end the day they are happy for going through all this....... So i really feel that getting out of our comfort zone and doing something unfamiliar or atleast giving it a try will free us from the shackles of our monotonous life and routine....... have a nice day !!!!

Humans are not Machines or Computer Programs.. and therefore no 'routine' will remain a 'fixed' routine.. somewhere, somehow there will be changes - with warning or without.. and we need to be prepared to face the changes - the unfamiliar.. Flexibility & Adaptability.. that's the best policy towards life and the unfamiliar..

Hello Pose. I have to say that sometimes I am a little bit afraid of the unfamiliar and I would like to keep quiet without speaking much. I am usually a little bit more talkative when I get familiar with the person I meet with after the first few times. But if I find the unfamiliar is a nice and kind person, or an easy-going one, things will be different. I love nice people even though they are unfamiliar to me. So it is the same with the unfamiliar things I have to meet with. Take care, friend.

New Ideas usually excite me, but new situations can make me uncomfortable if not afraid. I have a very active imagination and can usually judge all sides of a situation, but I am never very sure of how I should react. I am shy and not self assured, but a very good actress so very few people know how unsure of myself I am.

moving out of your comfort zone is so scary. i myself are afraid of unfamiliar. For example, i am afraid of resigning from my job because this is what i know, and i know im best at it. but when i think about it, my financial aspects is suffering because of this decision. Im afraid of many things, like what if i failed with my new job, what if i cannot handle the pressure or my associates or the new boss. maybe i should try it before i worried, right?

Hi charlenmendoza, Thank you for commenting and don't feel bad, there are many people like you. If you have the opportunity for a new job that pays more and you feel you need it, then maybe it's time to move along. Don't be afraid to take on new responsibilities but at the same time be sure it's what you want. Blessings.

Pose123, your post made me think of the words FDR used in his first Inaugural Address . . . "There is nothing to fear but fear itself"
