Sitting Frustrated at the Library

Well, I had errands to do in town today so thought that I would go to the library and take use of the highspeed internet and actually get some mylot pages loaded (my dialup at home is excrutiatingly slow) IT is intolerably noisy in here! we've got a couple teens behind me laughing and non stop talking the librarians are also in conversation - not hushed or concerned about disturbances. What ever happened to *Shhhhhh* this is the library? for goodness sakes! no common curtesy anywhere it seems. how is your library?

Pretty much the same I dont think the old style library exists anymore. As long as the teens are actually getting something out of the library and not just hanging out then I am OK with it. Thanks Zelo

Well then that goes onto the shoulders of the librarian not the kids IMO. Thanks Zelo

people seem to have no manners anywhere anymore. my friend works at a daycare and she said some loudmouth on a cell phone came in the other day and woke up ALL the babies at afternoon nap the other day. i usually try to hit the library on hours kids are at school. well..supposed to be at school,if they're not skipping.at least then i have some chance of quiet.

ah - but school is already out for the summer here - and why the large influx of teens. maybe they should make a rule of no 2 teens sitting next to each other at the laptops.

Our local library is quiet and relaxing. The lights are warm and make you feel comfy. If there is excessive noise the librarians will alert the noise makers to quiet down. A library is not a place to act out.

I got the librarian's attention and signaled to her that it was too noisy - and she told the kids to quiet down.... most of them paused for a couple never even did that much - within a couple minutes they were very boistrous again. I hope the librarian is not afraid of them. If I worked there they would have been told then second time made to get off the comps or at least seperate from each other.... 3rd time they would have to leave the library. you are fortunate to have such a nice library. that is the way it was in the one I grew up with. I miss that place.

Gee, I have gone to the local library a few times recently and it has always been very quiet. Very little talking or interaction an no music playing. Too bad your library is so noisy...my guess is that these days they are being more liberal to attract people.

I haven't been to the library for a few years, but the last time I was there, it was quiet and orderly as usual. I hope things haven't changed. When I was taking some classes at the university, I liked to use the library to study. I had a favorite quiet corner surrounded by potted plants, and a nice window for natural light. I could never study or read with any kind of distraction.

It looks like our library is the exception and that most are very quiet and considerate. I'm like you - I can not read/study without silence.

It has been a few years since I have gone to the library. The last time I was there was just like normal. You could hear a pin drop.

I would like to hear the pin right about now. I am on my way out, this is too difficult to concentrate with. I even turned around and asked the teens (their numbers have now grown) if they would please try to keep the conversation quieter) I received a blank stare and no change in their level of talk...if it was me back then I would have been so terribly sorry and embarrased for my lack of consideration... I would have been red in the face. what a shame - this gives young people a bad reputation.

That does give young people a bad name. I am sorry you had such bad experience!

Actually ours is pretty quiet...and if you do speak up if the librarians don't hear you one of the regulars who read the paper there everyday will remind you that you should keep it down....
