Erap for President! Again!

Philippines
June 2, 2009 5:49pm CST
It's all over the news, Erap is planning on running again for President. I am not sure if this is allowed per our constitution ( would still have to research on that), but if it is legal for him to run again, would you vote for him? do you thing it will help our already struggling country? or is this a disaster in the making? I personally would not vote for him, there are other candidates more qualified than him, that can run this country better. I just hope it won't be just a reply of what happened during his term, with all the media craziness, all the allegations, and of course the edsa 2.

For what good reasons are going to vote same people again into same position? I might read about them and what they will be doing for the good of our country. Its not a good time voting just they are great icons of the movie industry, or they are the successful athletes of the nation or have they are the people who are so popular. Not anymore.

I agree. Though I think the voting public has become wiser through all this, look what happened to Pacman and all other showbiz personalities who ran but lost last election. Let's just hope that we are really learned the lessons from the last 2 administrations. =)

What you think about pacman? He is also planning to run this coming 2010 elections. What you think about that. Since before pacman became famous i do never believe in him, i still boo him even though he wins i thought pacman became too boastful now. I never idolized him ever. That was only my opinion.

I too don't like Pacman.. I admire him for his boxing skills, but I agree that he has become too sure of himself.. I think he means well when he says that he wants to help our countrymen. But I am afraid that too many people who have other agendas are in his circle, and that they may give him really bad advice on how to govern his province. I just hope that he would just stick to his boxing and his non-profit org.. there are other ways to help the people. not just running for office..

First time voter huh?.. Well, it really depends on your beliefs on what this country really needs. I suggest you watch all those presidential debates, as some basis on what are the points or the priorities of those that are running for the position.. Don't rely on surveys, and don't vote just because according to some people this person is going to win. vote for who you think is going to do the best job as the president. And that's what really counts. =)

I guess he can technically run again since he did not end his term. But since he was judge under the law of being guilty of plunder he is not viable to run for any political position anymore. But, then again, the Arroyo administration had given him pardon from being imprisoned so I guess they are taking it there that the judgement on him was made not guilty of the crime. Oh well, I guess everybody can live scot free from technicalities. I just wish he would not run anymore to give way to others who are more capable good leaders. He had his stint and I guess that was it.

I think the constitution is pretty clear on that part. Only Eraps lawyers insist on their own interpretation. I rallied for his ouster Erap when he was still a sitting president. My feelings towards him certainly hasn't changed. Hasnt he messed up the country enough?! Get your act together Tagalogs! You are the people who (mostly) voted him to office!!

I agree! I said the same thing to my boyfriend, but he kept on telling me that the constitution allows reelection.. the only thing not legal is consecutive terms.. But I remembered clearly my consti subject, and I know they taught us that once elected, you can never run again for the same position... I guess it is subject to different interpretations... I was also there when Erap was ousted and I am proud that I was part of that history making event. =)

Let us not all forget the Jose Velardo case that Erap was involved. He was the President of the country at that time and he was ousted because of that. Would we want to be in that situation again? Filipinos are intelligent people. There are other candidates who would run that are more qualified than him. Let us be more vigilant and vote wisely, wisely.

I can't believe him either. ERRR super kapal ng mukha! He's making a joke out of this elections. Can't even answer seriously in the presidential debates. He will really make a fool out of the Filipinos and himself if he decides to run. :( Fool me once shame on you. Fool me once, shame on me.

He had the Nerve! and he thinks that people are stupid and Immature enough to vote for him. Probably He's thinking,"bah they've forgotten about, I should come back", I as referring to the Corruption Charges against him. Am glad that majority here in mylot agreed not to vote for him. Can he just retire from trying to go back to Malacanang Palace and Instead spend the remaining years of his life giving money, food, shelter to the poor. Isn't he that popular for "Erap para sa Mahirap" (Erap for the Poor). I bet he'll be fooled once more if he comes back to the palace, so unacceptable..

What I am aware of is that he was given a presidential pardon by GMA on the condition (among other things) that he will not run for any elective post anymore. So, there may be some legal implications/issues about his desire to run again.

oh please, never again. if i were in his shoes, i won't bother. he deserves better than the Philippine presidency. he should just live a pleasurable life with his family. he's part of our country's history already, that's should be enough.

I guess I won't be voting for him. I don't vote for him in his last candidacy too. I guess if there's a former president that I would be voting, that would be Marcos. I heard a lot of good things Marcos had done to our country. Well of course, less the corruption and the martial law. With respect to the performance as the president, that would be him.

i will not vote for him.... how would he help our struggling economy? he had the chance before but he did not the right thing. instead he made himself richer and so are his allies... that's total bs if he says he thinks about the 'masa' when he was in the office, that 'masa' he was saying was still in poverty, he may have helped a few for media purposes but still many people are living in porverty... i hope many filipinos will learn their lesson...

Oh no. I absolutely don't want Erap to be President again. I would never vote for him. For me, he is almost a disgrace and an embarrassment to the Philippines. He is famous for his lack of intelligence; thus, countless famous Erap jokes arise. Why can't he just leave politics and not aspire to be President again? If he really loves the Philippines, he should just lay low and don't meddle in politics anymore. If he became President, he will just make the Philippines worse than before and currently. I truly hope it is illegal for him to run for President again.

I have not seen it in the news or i may have been watching the news right after they show that but I will definitely not vote for him. After all that has happened, I do not think people will. The upper class will definitely not but the lower class might still vote him especially the ones that admire him so much. But for me, I do not want to go through the same thing all over again and would rather go for someone more intelligent.

I think it's good if erap run for president this 2010 elections. He did not finished his term being a president. But i thought there is already a presidential canditate of the opposition party. It could be chiz escudero, manny villiar, mar roxas. And about the constitution, a family member or a relative of a politician should not run to be a government official, a dynasty in government is not allowed(if i am not mistaken). But as you can see some of PGMA family or relative is a government official.

I agree that political dynasty is not allowed in our constitution and I think it is also stated in our constitution that you cannot run again for presidency if you have already won the post. Since ERAP won already, he cannot anymore run for the same post.. even if he did not finish his term.. That is what I remember in my consti subject back in college.. And I hope I am right. LOL.

Erap as a savior to our struggling country? Gosh! How will he do it? By having another midnight cabinet? By calling back DILG Secretary Puno in his side again? No, not again! We have lots of good and capable people out there who can handle the affairs of our country well. If only the voters will grow up and not give in to patronage politics, more qualified people will be in the position and running the country the way it should be managed.
