My good friend had her kid tested to go into the first grade and to skip kindergarten. Her kid past the test. I asked her what was on the test and she said it was just reading. Is that the only thing they worry about to get into the first grade? She said she didn't need to do any math, no numbers, no time and no money. Scary huh?

that doesn't surprise me, when I was in elementary school i was ayear behind in reading and that was the only they kept holding me back on. then when i got into fifth grade and changed schools because of school district changes and I was atleast two years ahead of everyone else. the only they didn't move us up was because of our ages and my mom didn't want us to be criticized for being "too smart" for our age.

To me, that's just crazy that a school only worries about reading. I guess they figure if you can read you can read "how -to" learn stuff. This has to be hard on children when everyone else knows how to tie shoes, and knows what time it is.

That's not good, my mom did that to me and it wasn't cool! I grew up always 1 year behind all my friends. I'm not talking about smarts. But all the girls in my class were 1 year older than me, all my friends got their drivers licenses 1 year before me, school was not fun for me! Show this to your friend! When I went to college I was 17 yrs. and it sucked big time! tdemex

Wow! Sorry you had such bad experience. My husband had the same sort of thing happen because his birthday is in November. I guess when driver's licenses come up that will be a major deal. That's the biggest event in a teen's life.

Very interesting. Kindergarten isn't legally required you know. It doesn't surprise me that a kid could test out of it.

HAHAHA. OMG I can selpl so wlle. Yes, I meant passed. I just chiseled in such a hurry I didn't even catch that. I didn't think kindergarten was required in any states but I know 100% for sure it is not required in FL, Al, and Va. I think if any child has pre-k they can probably go to first grade without problems. The same stuff is taught.
