I think French is a very interesting language and I always want to learn it, especially after I watched some great French movies like Asterix and Obelix, Taxi, etc. But too bad I still don't have enough time to join the French language course in my city What about you, do you speak French?? Is it your native language ?? If not, where did you learn it ?? Do you speak French fluently ???

I speak French as a second language, having learned it over five years in secondary school. I got a 7 in IB French SL, mainly due to a very good teacher. I would like to say it was very useful, but it hasn't featured at all over the past two years since graduation, nor do I have the opportunity to further this language skill in university. You'd need to study the grammar alone over the entire time, with so many tenses to consider. It's an interesting progression, from knowing limited vocabulary for general conversations until the end, when for the oral component, I was expected to present a specialized topic and defend my debate position. She said I was extremely nervous, but I pulled through very well. As for the written part, the IB exam was ridiculously easy; most of my class finished it in just under an hour, leaving early. French is a good language to learn if you know you have a great teacher (specializing in English and French) with unbreakable commitment to education. Otherwise, it would probably be a headache to learn, which explains the many who quit later on. But it's a pleasant language to know.

You're right, a highly qualified teacher is very important in learning French. I'm thinking about joining the French Embassy's Language Course in my country. I hope they have native speaker teachers there who can help me learning French well. Thank you for the response, that's a good one

Yes, my friend took it from Allianz Francais, which is kind of affiliated to the French embassy. I thought what we learned was a good deal, but he was amazing. Probably because he ended up in Canada, Montreal - with many French-speaking people. Unfortunately for me, I ended up in Australia and anyone who spoke French was learning it at a beginner level. Good luck and keep steadfast to learning French!

Hi, if you want to learn French, just do it right now! I speak French as my second foreign language and I've learned it for about 3 years and living in Paris really helps me to improve my speaking.

Hi Amy, thanks for the support. Yes, I have started to learn a little French from the French speaking movies, but I still don't have enough time to learn it in a language course, well...hopefully soon I will have the chance to learn it properly. Thank you for the response...

Bon courage! I suggest you start with a basic textbook including a audio track to learn the rules of spelling an prononciation of French then you'll find things become much easies. Watching some TVs or movies with simple dialogues is good strategy 'cause you have to get yourself exposed to this language as mush as possible. Listening comprehesion once was so tough for me as french people speak TOO TOO fast. You have to train your ears to be familiar with their speed and the 'laision', in which unprononced letter becomes prononced one! But anyway, try to find a method suits you and you'll make it!

No, I'm sorry but I don't. I just wish that I could, too. I really find this language very passionate and romantic. It's one in the list of languages that I would want to speak in the future. But Japanese is the first so I guess I would focus on it more. Good luck my friend.
