We have recently started a huge veggie garden (well huge from our eyes anyway) And I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to keep it organic? We dont know where to start, but know that we would like to keep our veggies away from chemicals as much as possible Thanks for the tips!!!!

Hi Amanda, I have a large fruit and vegetable garden and don't use any chemicals. If you are near a farm get some manure delivered in the Autumn. You don't need to dig it in just scatter it over the area you want to fertilise. The worms and the rain will mix it through the soil. A compost heap is a must. Include all kitchen vegetable waste and fruit skins etc, Grass cuttings will raise the temperature and kill any seeds that are on weeds that you put in. Don't waste money on packs of compost starters. A little garden lime scattered over it every six inches will help or better still pour on some pure urine which is also a good fertiliser when diluted with at least two parts water. Crushed egg shells and coffee grains scattered around your plants help deter slugs and are also valuable feeding. (More to follow)
