Should kids have cell phones?

Hi - I was wondering what is the right age to get your child a cell phone. Mine is 10 and she wants one...I think she is too yougn...what do you think?

It depends on whether there is a need for your child to have a cell phone. My youngest started nagging me for her own cell phone before there was a need so I didn't get her one. Once she was old enough to go to places like the mall or to be doing group activities with her friends then I agreed to get her a phone because I wanted her to be able to contact me if she needed to. Before that, when she was either at home or at school, or being dropped off at a friend's house or being picked up by someone's parent, she didn't need one.

Hmm..Yes, that's very true...Perhaps when I finally give in and get her one, I'll get the ones have preselected numbers programmed in it...so that she can only phone certain numbes....that way atleast I can controlled who she calls...Although i'm sure that won't last long..haha

i started mine around 10 years of age. its a good way to keep track of them. just dont allow texting on their phones.
