There aren't many toll roads around here. When I was a child be had to use a toll bridge, really not anyway around that. My brothers and I would argue about who would get to give the toll man the money. We thought it was great for some reason.

LOL! We always liked to get the ticket for the turnpike from the backseat whenever my Dad would let us! It was an automated machine and we thought it was the coolest thing. I know exactly what you mean! (Now I prefer to use the automated system - EZPass - whenever possible)

This conversation came up with a couple of my friends recently. There is talk of making the major highway where I live into a toll road. Many people are quite upset about it because there really isnt any other option, unless you want to sit through a million stoplights and traffic!
I am not against toll roads. In my opinion, they are better taken care of. They use the money from to make sure the roads are upkept properly. Rather than this coming out of the general fund of taxes, it is paid for by the people who use the road.
I also think that toll roads encourage people to take public transportation and carpool. If they made the highway where I live into a toll road, I would be happy as long as it meant a better public transportation system. There are trains to the city from almost all of the other suburbs, but not here. If they were to put in a train, I would use it frequently! I think this would be great for the volume of traffic on the road which would help everyone's commute. I also think it would be great for the environment.
So while I hate paying extra tolls out of my pocket, I know that they are a good thing. Ultimately, we pay for the roads either through tolls or taxes anyway!
