Has a tv cult classic been turned into a movie joke?

As a kid I watched re-runs of the show LAND OF THE LOST. It's original run was 1974-76. Which means by todays standards, the special effects were/are hokie. The movie is coming out tomorrow, and it is a comedy starring Will Ferrell. Were you a fan of the show? Do you think it should be given a more serious sci-fi treatment?

The "Land of the Lost" was a nice series if I recall correctly. As a child, I do not think I really understood the mythology of the setting. I feel, however, that the authors spent some time trying to come up with background material. I remember the "Sleestacks" and one which was considered intelligent. The strange dimensional pylons and the 'magic' crystals. I do not know if they ever escaped or not. As I recall there was a second series on TV called "Land of the Lost" but it wasn't very similar to the original. Now with this movie starring Will Ferrell, I think it will be something of a joke. I'm not really a fan of Will Ferrell movies in general, so I do not think I will bother seeing this one in the theater.

hi ersmommy1. yes i watched the Land of the Lost growing up and have been looking forward to the movie release, but am disappointed that it has been turned into a comedy. it looks like a good family film, and i like will ferrell, but it would have been interesting if the producers and writers had given it , as you said, more serious sci fi treatment.

Yeah, i think they are turning that mnovie in to a big joke. I use to watch it as a kid s well. I love watching that show. Back than it was awesome. I think it should be made in to a serious sci fi movie. Not just some joke. As for one of the actors in the new movie. I think he is nothing but a joke and not very funny at all. He thinks he is. But he is not.

I watched the series some and thought it was fairly good. I agree with you about the movie being a joke since any movie starring Will Farrel is a joke and not worth ging to see.

We have some episodes of the origial Land of the Lost on DVD. My husband made the kids watch them and of course they think the "special effects" are lame. We had thought the movie would be great, but with Will Ferrell and it being a comedy, we may skip it.
