I live in Chicago. And, while I don't know what the percentages of people are that actually participate in the recycling efforts, I do think that the city makes it as easy as possible to atleast do the minimum. We've had the "blue bag" program for years and years. basically that's where you separate and throw you recyclables into blue bags and throw them out with the trash. Now we have a big blue garbage can to throw our big blue bags into. No muss, no fuss. It really makes thing very simple. What does your city do to aids in your recycling efforts? Do they have other programs for recycling other materials like computers and electronics, or houosing materials from when you remodel?

Recycling in San Francisco is huge! we have programs and also bins outside of companies that separate compost and recyclables and trash as well. Green is compost, blue is recycling, and black is trash. That is out colors here in the city.

Wow, a compost bin? Does that mean you can recycle organic material, like say potato peels, and stuff like that? That really is cool.

We recycle here. We are supplied with a green container to recycle paper, cans and cardboard. It is picked up once a week. Hopefully soon they will add glass to the program. I believe thru out the year they will let you know where to take your electronics for recycling.

We have the Big Blue recycle bins everywhere to help with the recycling efforts, but sometimes these are harder to find for sure. I think personally they need to make more drop off points for recyclables and put more emphasis on all the things that can be recycled as well. If these were more readily available everywhere there would be more of it done for sure.

Yes, having the big containers for each household really does make it as easy as can be. Now that the recyclables are completely separated from the regular trash, its got to be easier for pick-up as well.

We used to have curbside recycling before Katrina. After the storm there has been very limited attempts to recycle and the one company that picks up does so for a monthly charge so not everyone participates.

It is a massive job. I can't be done in a proverbial day. unfortunately. There is also the chance like other places that have storms and tornadoes and earthquakes and the like that there will be more damage in the future like there was the year after Katrina when a tornado ripped through.
