Anyone had a pet that passed away?

I just saw this movie "Marley and Me" recently, and loved that dog Marley! I would totally love to have a pet like that, loyal, fun and full of energy. But the last part of the movie was too sad, where this guy had to make the decision of "killing" his dog. I mean if one day I have a pet, I don't think i would be able to handle the pain of losing it eventually. And you know, from the beginning, that they will die before you(at least in most cases.) Did anyone have this kind of experiences? How did you deal with it? I'd like to prepare myself emotionally before actually adopting a cute little friend.

My Chinchilla Wispa passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. It was horrible, and she was only young so I really hadn't given the possibility any thought what so ever. But you get on with it don't you?! I have two more now, Twinkle and Dusty. Both different and could never replace Wispa, but I love them all the same.

hey it's very nice that you have two more to fill in for Wispa (btw, that's a cool name!) I sure you enjoy them alot. I wish I had a chinchilla. What color was your Wispa and now ur Twinkle and Dusty? My friend had a white one, he was sooooo unbelievable cute!! but whenever my friend took him out for me to hold, he would be really "defensive"..haha..

I had my dog for 10 years while growing up. She was a great dog and very loyal. She passed away shortly after Christmas. That was so hard because I had her since I was 10. There is no way you can prepare yourself. My parents had to put my dog down because she was in pain. They didn't even have enough time to fly me home so I can be home for it. That part was very hard, but you know what, eventually you have to move on. My mom and dad got a new dog and we all love this new dog. I still have pictures of my first dog. After having a dog for 10 years my parents couldn't deal with not having a dog around their house. But we all miss our first dog.

Hi dreamer, I actually heard a lot people say once you have a pet, you will never want to live without one ever again! They are not only cute and fun to play with, they help a lot physically and emotionally. I figure people have pets are happier too, at least i'm sure pet people wont have depression. I guess i shouldn't worry about preparing myself anymore, pets are like people we meet in life, they all come and go, we will move on, eventually, like you said. Maybe I will start educate myself on HOW to adopt and raise a baby pet. :))
