Would you agree to pay more to have 'clean' energy?

Nowadays there are many valid alternatives to fossil fuels, but usually they tend to be somewhat more expensive than using the old-fashioned coal or oil or natural gas. Clean energy usually comes with a cost, one has to decide if the external costs (like pollution, health issues, etc) of fossil fuels is bigger than the cost of developing clean energy on a vast scale. So what do you think about it? If you think it is worth do you think the best course of action would be to incentivate clean energy or tax more fossil fuels?
