I'm 47 and for me music was all about Rock in the 1970's. I didn't like everything Rock and I did like some tunes in other genres. Perhaps you know what I mean, a song is either flat or there is something catchy about it. It's not about a number 1 hit but a song that caught my ear. I do find that happens less with todays music.

Different people have different sense of music. You don;t like it, didn;t mean the music is lousy. It is just your sense of music is not suitable to nowadays rock and hip- hop song. Keep your own music way and in the meanwhile don't criticize other's music. Thanks

Everything is opinion, but some opinions are just plain facts of reality. I understand what you´re saying, casandra, but talking about a genre that i know bwell, Hip Hop, i definitely think it has gone worst. The 50 cent style is proliferating. Gangsta Rap is a trend, now, it sells and the formula is copied everywhere. As for the real ones, the "resistance" (like i like to call them) are not praised and promoted as they deserved (for the sake of Hip Hop), and these resistants are true artists like: Immortal Technique, R.A. The Rugged Man (i bet most of you never even heard about this guy), MadLib, etc etc etc... May the undergound live long... Peace

The 60s and 70s aren't coming back. If there was an act around that sounded like the reincarnation of the 60s and 70s, they'd just be considered unoriginal (in the rock world -- pop is a different monster) and laughed out of existence. The last great rock band I heard was Audioslave. Some of the older bands are still making music, but I haven't heard of a band post 95 that really excited me except the Slave. Maybe 3 Doors Down's first album... but I don't know. It's a lot to think about on a whim.

i totally DO NOT AGREE. you don't know which bands to listen to. rock music is not total crap. it's not nonsense noise. try listening to my chemical romance, incubus, the spill canvas, or red jumpsuit apparatus. hey, you're making a very hasty generalization about rock music.

Rock was definitley better in the past. So was every genre. Hiphop is suffering too. All the popular music today is "fake" rock bands like miley cyrus, jonas brothers, fray, all that crap.

i have to say that there are some people that are talented that are out there these days like Pink and Cold Play (both whom i like) but i have to agree with you. funny, i am into jazz, big band (and a ton of venues of music too) but i was wondering what i would be listening to when i hit the nursing home... it will prolly be classic stuff like you mentioned but i dont think hip hop and that sort will last.

I agree with you! I have been giving my daughter a hard time about the music that she chooses to listen to as it just isn't good. I think that the rock bands of the 80's were some of the best. I agree that there are other good groups, but the music today is not good.

The music of today is just garbage. It's too fake...too mass-produced. These singers today rarely, if ever, write their own songs; they rely instead on these songwriters who come up with the cheesiest, most unoriginal lyrics. What happened to the great rock of the past? Example: Queen--they oozed originality; how many other groups would dare to combine rock and opera in one of their songs? Pink Floyd is another group that can rock out a stadium. This is really why I don't even bother listening to the popular radio stations and stick instead with classic rock, particularly the 80s.

Yes! Rock used to be real music but now it's just a load of crap. When I listen to modern rock songs all I hear is noise. I think this is not just happening to the rock genre but to the whole modern music in general. It's just so sad to think that music in the past was much more intelligent than the present music. It's a cultural decline happening globally.

todays rock music are not good to my ear.. I've been listening until now to rock musics of the 70' and 80's.. I'm a fan of PINK FLOYD mostly..

Haven't you heard "If it's too loud, you are too old" :-) I find rock using a lot of metal tends to be indigestible sometimes. btw, I too prefer listening to the oldies you mentioned. In the new bands Linking Park or Coldplay might be worth listening to sometimes.

Often enough, yes, the rock music of today is total crap. However, to generalise it all and class it all as rubbish is rather unfair. Yet we may only class it as rubbish due to the amazing standards that people such as Eric Clapton have generated. Everyone deserves a chance right?

I like a little of the stuff out now, but I agree, most of it just plain sucks. I think what's really bad now a days, most of these "artists" don't even write their own songs anymore-and that's not just limited to rock, it's all genres. And, I've noticed a lot of them can't sing either, they use the studio to enhance their voices. Just like everything else in life that's been "modernized", it's gone right down the cr*pper.....

I have to disagree I am 36 and I love Green Day, Razorlight and Plain white T's amongst others. My sister is 40 this year and a mum of 2 and she went to see Green day at the O2 in London last year she is a big fan of them. I am also hoping to go and see Green day later in the year with my eldest son. I also like the older stuff as well like Aerosmith, Led Zepplin and the Beetles I don't know which radio stations you listen to but I often hear the older songs on the radio.

They can't be compared to the Beatles in quality but at least some of them make the effort to make good music. Still, I'd rather listen to Tchaikovsky than most of the bands today.

Yes I totally agree with you. When you can't understand a word they are saying in a song plus all the screaming its not music to me. The music from years ago was the best. Nowadays its just garbage on the radio.

um, okay so first of all. the screaming, ITS NOT ROCK. its freakin called HARDCORE or SCREAMO. get the genre right. second of all, for one of the comments: who the HELL said miley was rock? or the jonas brothers? they aren't rock. no one even classifies them as rock. get the genre right.
