Salary Increase for Government Workers

Amidst the economic woes afflicting many nations, there is one reason to smile about in the Philippines. I just learned that the Philippine Congress has approved Joint Resolution No. 36 that would "upgrade, rationalize, and standardize" the compensation of some 1.1 million government workers, more than 200,000 military personnel, and public school teachers. The President is expected to sign it for implementation effective July 1, 2009. Under the revised salary scheme, public school teachers will be receiving an increase of Php6,500 across the board whilst state workers will be receiving between 40% to 80% increase (depending on the salary grades). The salary adjustment however, will be spread over a period of four years (2009-2012). A budget of 20 billion pesos has been initially allocated for 2009. Now, that is good news.

Is that php6,500 increase anually? or monthly? yes, teachers must have a decent salary and so as the nurses. Government is the riches entrepreneur in this country and she can pay even the highest paid employee.. You know what i mean..

That will be monthly. So if a teacher is receiving Php10,000/mo now, he/she will receive Php16,500/mo when the new rate is implemented. But as I said, the increase will be on a staggered basis (over a period of 4 years) starting July 1, 2009.
