So I finally did it...

June 8, 2009 6:11am CST
I finally self-published my book. Well, not THE book - the novel - but a kids' storybook. It's called "My Name Is Pie" and is up on Lulu. There are even pictures for the kids to colour. I am, understandably, all excited. If anyone has young kids who might enjoy it, drop over to my blog. I'm giving away ten copies as a bit of a promo and to celebrate!! Woohoo!

Hi there. I am a novelist and so I know all the thrill of publishing. I ave never published a book before, but I am gonna publish my first book by this December (I hope). I am writing a fantasy and sci-fi mixed. And it's humerous mainly for teens and not for kids. I don't have any kids, but I will sure check out your blog. It might hepl me too! Regards, Ajith.

Thanks for the comment - you're writing in my favourite genres...!! I shall look forward to hearing about that. I'll be writing some stuff up for the blog over the coming days, with the whole process of self-publishing (just my tiny bit of personal experience). Hopefully it'll help!

@pupupd Well thank you for the interest. I hope I mentioned it is not published. It would, hopefully, be out in December. The name is gonna be... ok, I will PM you. If I write it here, you are never going to hear it! @SpikeTheLobster Thanks for the offer. It would be very kind of you to do it: just my tiny bit of personal experience. It would be very helpful for me. I am a newbie in novel writing. Doesn't know much about publishing. You blog can only benefit me! Regards, Ajith.

That is so wonderful! Congrats! Glad you are celebrating. It's nice to accomplish what you have been trying to do. Even if it's not your novel, you will write that too.

Thanks J! It may only be a small thing next to a full novel, but I'm still really jazzed about it. I'm just hoping it gets some nice reviews on Lulu or via the blog. SO far it seems positive (well, only one person has said anything, but it was positive!!).

Actually, I just read it. It's really cute and easy for a child to understand. I will have my critic check it out tomorrow because I just put her in the bath. I loved the pictures. The one for the exercise made me laugh. It's definitely a cat!

Congratulations! Being published is awesome, even if you self publish. I belong to lulu.com but haven't published a thing there yet. One day...

Thanks Peavey. Just remember to switch on your cookies for Lulu, or it gets VERY upset!! (Took me a while to figure out why it wasn't letting me log in, d'oh!)

That's really wonderful--congrats to you for having it published! Your title sure is intriguing--I'll go check it out I also started out a children's book with my sister and have it lulu as well (we still have to edit it though) But, yeah, completing and having it published sure gives a wonderful feeling--the best of luck to you and your other book endeavors!

Thanks Raenie! I got your comment on the blog, too, so you should have your freebie by now. Happy colouring...

Congratulations. That is an accomplishment. I hope that you have lots of success with your book. it is amazing to get published even if it is just a small book. I have a friend who is always trying to write, but never seems to get anything accomplished.

Thanks, Snowy. I was lucky, because I'd already written this one (in a very different style) - I just had to re-write it for kids! It's quite tough and stressful getting everything together, though - especially since I had illustrations to get as well. Would've been easier with just text!!

Hi Spike, that's great. Hope you blow the trumpet everywhere to announce the good news. Fortunately lulu.com allows pinging, and traffic exchange. There is no restriction on the ways to promote your storefronts. I think you can get away by submitting the storefront to those blog directories or web directories. Congrat on the "birth" of your baby. I guess it's painful!

Hehehe, thanks! Not too painful - just really stressful. The number of times I re-read it, checked it, re-read it, changed it... still, it's done now. It'd be nicer if it was REALLY published, but I'm still really thrilled with an electronic version!!
