highvoltage transformer board for a Hitachi 50EX20B

The T.V. would come on and go completely off with a short crackle" sound. We could turn it on again and it would stay on for a period of anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours. Our repair man said it could be the highvoltage transformer and for which he says no parts are available. The set was assembled in May 1997 which makes it 9 years old. Too young to die....Help please
