Have you ever wondered why we feel physical pains whenever we're having a strong emotion?
When I get scared, I feel a pain in my stomach, like knots.
When I am nervous it feels like butterflies in my stomach.
Just now I was reading a love note that my husband e-mailed to me and when I read a certain sentance my chest tightened.
Can you name more physical pains that are associated with emotions? Do you know why we feel them?

Well, my head is all over the place with this one. I'm working with a Naturopath on something related to this. When I'm happy, my muscles loosen up and I feel fine. When I'm stressed, unhappy, angry, etc., my muscles tighten up and I feel pain. I don't understand why this is, I only know that it is. If the emotions are bottled up, it is much worse than if you let them out. This is one of many things I am working on to have a better quality of life.

Hope it works out well for you. I think we all get those type symptoms to a degree. I've been really stressed lately, and I'm noticing the knots in my neck are a lot worse right now. But when I'm not so stressed I don't notice the knots.

Stress absolutely does it to me although certain things will help loosen things up, music, laughter, taking a walk outside on a nice day, etc.

I try to do some of those things more, but my husband is so negative and he's been stressed lately too. Whatever I do to get myself up, he brings me back down. I try to lift his mood too sometimes, but there's only so much I can do, he needs to do the rest and he won't!

Oh that is so nice of him to do that - send the note to you. It is wonderful. When I am emotionally upset I develop instant stomach pains and diarrhoea. It happens to my daughter too. I wil also throw up and my chest really hirts. I don't know why this happens and I hope that someone replies who can answer this question.

It is amazing how that our emotions play so strongly on our nervous system, which in turn can cause such physical problems. I have been torn to shreds emotionally, and been completely unable to move physically. People say, don't let it get to you, but I think that people actually cannot help how we feel. And, in all actuality, we should not try to control our feelings. We just have to feel that way and move on.
I think it is great that you still have those feelings when your husband sends you a love note! Congratulations to you in having such a great relationship!

Emotions are very powerful and can cause much deeper pain than physical hurt which goes away quite quickly. Emotional pain can build up and lead to serious physical trouble if left untreated.

It is weird how moods can affect our physical being.
When I'm depressed, I often get extremely fatigued and inexplicably tired. And like you, and most people, I get butteflies when I'm nervous. xD

I can really understand that. There was one time I had a friend who I really cared for and respected. That friend said something that really was totally unexpected of him and it really did upset me so much. I then had migraines which made me sick. I couldn't eat for a while. Because of malnutrition, I then ended up getting boils. All this was from the stress of being upset with what was said.
Since then I have recovered physically. Mentally, I have not quite got there. I believe that our bodies are telling us that something is wrong or different.
