As i have been saying i would be surprised if Australia even made it to the next round leave alone the semi finals but the Australians have failed to surprise me by losing their second straight match as a result of which they have been knocked out of the tournament. i think one of the reasons is the the team that has been picked by the Australian selectors. this team does not look threatening at all. some players have come out of injury and some do not have form at all and their captain ricky ponnting has never been good at t20 cricket. the two best t20 players for Australia are dirk nannes and brad hodge both of whom were not picked for the tournament. and ironically nannes could be the one to go through with his team to the next stage of the team after he was not picked by the Australian team. the season just seems to be getting worse for the Australian team.where do they go from here?

One main reason for australia's downfall in cricket is the unforgettable sydney test match debacle where the mon-key incident was happened. I think australia lost the plot there and since then they have never been able to play with unity and also their bench strength does not look strong. Ricky ponting has not been able to carry forward the invincible era of australian domination in world cricket. They are lacking the spirit of the game. They even don't have the great stalwarts of the team now and looks a very out of sorts team!

its all happening in 20 20 cricket. any team who is good in cricketing skills also need bit of luck to win a 20- 20 match. But in case of Australia its their over confidence and team unity problems has knocked them out of the world 20 20 series

i agree the skills and execution of those skills has to be perfect. we saw in the England versus Holland match the English fielders messed up a lot. Australia did not have a good team for the world cup and that is why they have been knocked out.

In t20 you need some unorthodox style off batting and bowling to win matches. But Australians never play such kind of cricket.Their bowlers bowl only offstump line which is not very helpful in t20.Also i feel now they should more chance for young players to give team anew look.

yes i agree a new look team should be played at least in the t20 matches. better players seem to be warming the bench and the same people who are not doing well continue to play.

Hi. If Only they can concentrate on it, They might be looking forward for the Ashes. It is a complete downfall for the Australian Team. I think the main reason for this lowering of their status and play level is the arrogance and attitude of the players towards others. They are the 'bad boys'(as they say it) of the world cricket and India and South Africa along with few other good teams are now showing them their real worth if they remain so.

well what option do they have now but to look forward to the ashes series and prepare well for it. i think the arrogance is the same but the performance level has gone down. let us see what they can do in the ashes now.

Australia were never good at T20. And given their current form in general, I never expected them to play a major role in the WC.

that is what i have been saying as well. they are not good in t20 especially now that their main players are not doing well or have retired.

Australia is not the team they were two or three years ago. They are lacking in motivation and form. One can often see when a player is out of form and the effect it can have on a team but in this case it is the team that is out of form and it is affecting the players. Ausralia now have extra time to prepare for the Ashes series against England, which I think they regard as much more important. In Australia's defence (I am not an Oz supporter) I don't think they place a lot of importance on T20 cricket, they are after all, a great test playing nation and the Ashes series is far more important to them.

well now they have no choice but to look ahead to the ashes series in advance. i do not think they attach lesser importance to t20 cricket. they are just not a good side right now and they have never been good at knockout tournaments. they are going downwards in every form of cricket right now and i think an ashes loss would be the final nail on what has been a poor season so far.

I really don’t want to guess where they go from here…just like what goes up comes down, so I think we are witnessing the slide of the mighty Aussies (just like it was with the Windies)…but to say that I was not surprised at all would be a lie. Knowing the team spirit and fighting tendency, I was always hoping they would bounce back. When it was around 80 for 5 and from there they went on to set a target of 160, I though I was seeing the same Aussie resilience. But it was not it be...anyway, with the Aussies gone, the tournament will sure miss some shine, at least for me.

yes and the slide is going on from some time now. as everyone says the bigger they get the harder they fall. i hope their fall gets even harder by losing the ashes series against England. but i was not surprised at all and it was not a lie for me as i have been saying in other discussions after their loss against west indies that i do not expect them to even reach the second round. and i am happy that they have gone because they do not have a good team at all and better players could have been played in the tournament which the selectors did not.

I am not much expert in knowing all the reasons. It may be they were over confident. plus it can be the reason of the absence of key players who could have played well for them,.Plus its time to change I think.

hello pratik.just now finished responding to a similar discussion. so if there is any 50 over tournaments like the champiopns trophy in another month or so,can u bet that aussies will be eleminated in the first round and win the bet? i can bet u will lose ur every bet.as i continue to say,T20 is not real cricket.its too short to be cricket.more like a game of chance and believe me its going to be the only world rating which is going to fluctuate worser than the share markets.who knows even netherland wins the world cup this time and u will say THEY PLAYED GOOD CRICKET.yeah sure.and pigs shall fly.they picked there best and played their best but too bad this format doesnt always favours the talented people .they r better off preparing for ashes

here you go again with your t20 bashing. first of all let me tell you that this discussion is about the performacne of the australian team in the t20 world cup so i am only interested in talking about t20 cricket at least till the t20 world cup is over. i do not care if there is champions trophy next month or not which by the way is in September. but still i would very much like to bet against the Australian team. they lost to India in the cb series. lost to south Africa in both the home and away one day series. they were saved by losing to new zeal and because one match rained off due to which the series was drawn. the only team they have been able to beat in 20 overs cricket is Pakistan at a time when they had not played international cricket for ages and still all that Australia could manage was a 3-2 series and lost to them as well in the t20 match. i hope i do not have to say anything further in this regard. if you think then Netherlands played bad cricket and still won the match then i do not think that you understand cricket. if someone plays good cricket and wins what else should be said about it? you are exaggerating that Netherlands will win the world cup just to prove your point. but the fact is even if they do win the world cup it will be because they play brilliant cricket not just good cricket.maybe Australia should make you their coach in the next t20 world cup. i am sure you will tell them it is just a game of chance and then toss a coin and decide if they should win or lose the match. Australia did not have a good team and that is why they have lost. the better players are sidelined while players who are not in form are playing. lastly i find it difficult to comprehend as to why you refuse to understand that t20 cricket is the future of cricket no matter if i like it or if you hate it.

It was really a stunning experience for there entire team. There key players didn't performed in this World-Cup. Brett Lee was punished hard in the first match and there batting was also pathetic in the second match. I think you are wrong, because Dirk Nannes is playing from Netherlands in this world cup. They don't have good powerful batting as well as bowling line now.

i know dirk nannes is playing for Netherlands and that is because Australia did not select him in their squad. brett lee has just come back from injury he is not their best bowler right now and a few batsmen are out of form including ricky ponting who is no good in t20 cricket. if they would have selected nannes they would have got some solidity in their bowling department.
