I over-clocked my last PC. The processor runs in cycles - a bit like pedaling a bike I suppose. Each time the pedals go round, you go a distance along the road - or get some calculations done in the case of a PC. However, if you pedal faster, you get rotations of the pedals, so you go further or get more calculations done. BUT - the processor is then working hard, and potentially is more liable to break. You can stabilise the processor a bit by increasing the voltage to the chip. You can get at most of these settings in the bios - or you used to be able to. There are dip-switches on the Motherboard for the multiplier, but certainly on athlon boards, these are locked out - or again they were, I'm a bit out of date!
