I do agree with you, to a certian point. I am a major cat person. I dont care too much for dogs. That's besides the point though. Some people do care for their pets quite well and maybe at times it may seem it's more then their own flesh and blood. I myself have never done this nor ever seen it happen. There is no point in having an animal if it is kept outside at ALL TIMES. That can also be taken into as animal abuse. I just believe that if parents cant handle the responsiablity of caring for a child and an animal they dont need or deserve to have an animal.

In our house, we have 3 cats and a bunny. Our rule is not to leave them and our child unsupervised. He is at the age now where he can chase them.

You're insane. You know that? You're also 100% wrong. Children brought up with pets have higher immune systems, have a better understanding of how to be gentle and enjoy the feeling that a cat or a dog can bring. You can train your kids NOT to eat dog poo or lick the cat's butt. I've NEVER had a problem with my DD putting her hands inside my husband's dog's mouth. She doesn't eat cat poo. She doesn't lick the pets. She doesn't do anything to them. You're paranoid. It's like wrapping your kid from head to toe in bubble paper because he *might* get a scrape or fall down and get a bump. Lighten up.
