most working people are multitasking.they're not only doing things that are stated in the job description but most of the time, they should also know the works of the other staff in their office. multitasking is done here in our place and with no pay at all. we are also tasked to do some stuff by our boss yet we are not paid for it.i am referring to works that are outside our job description. what's your side on this?

If multi tasking has some profit in it, then why dont we do multitasking. At my place sometimes my PM offers tasks which were not completed by others, when i finish them on time, i get recognised and guess what i got a good hike ;-)

well, we have like that in our office too. like me i have many other jobs aside from the work that i am supposed to do. i am a data controller but when my boss needed me to do such other stuffs like being an assistant to our secretary, making phone calls to our service offices and other things that are not really what i have in mind for my job description. but anyways, theres nothing to lose but even more i could gain more from it. and it could add up to my experiences here in the office. thanks friend jhelai

well it's one way of getting into the way of the boss heart and empathy. being always obedient to the boss is a must.

well soon enough if you get work, you need to so some tasks too that are way out of your job description.sometimes, this multitasking is already part in our culture and system that we can't avoid and usually do so without any choice. we need to abide what our boss would say or else it may happen that your performance rating would be affected.

That is a bummer... I used to work as a clinic nurse before, and it totally freaked me out when one of the doctors asked me to make his coffee. I don't know, I just feel like, I didn't study four years in college to make someone else their coffee, per their request. I am not sure how that's done in your office. But I hope something can be done to have that avoided. I hate it when bosses go beyond what they're supposed to be.

I multi-task all the time. While on the phone I am checking emails and creating presentations. When on long conference calls I can file, organize my desk, do the bills, etc. It has become a way of life for most of us.

yes, i think we can't avoid that now.it's just that our bosses should appreciate some things like that.most of them are just bossing around and not even realizing to appreciate and see what their staffs have done to the institution.it's one way of motivating people to work more and not just bossing around.thanks for the response.

hey flagella If listen music or talk with my colleagues are count, yes I'm multitasking. Seriously and honestly, I think I don't have the multitatasking ability and most of time my works is single-thread. If I have two or more work items, I alway finish them one by one.

i can't afford to do just single tasks.my time to some things are limited.that's why i need to have them done quick by multitasking.

After 10 yrs of survival in a small sized private organization, I have learnt that multitasking is the only thing that has helped me save my job in all times (good and bad)…I have recd no special financial benefit for all the extra work I have done or the extra knowledge I have gone out of my way to acquire and put to use…I have been applauded and people (boss specifically) have discussed how I have become an invaluable and intrinsic part of the organization…but that’s all. So lesson learnt by me is that since I am being paid, all jobs given by the person who signs my paycheque, is a JOB…no questions asked and no hopes for extra payment.
